The old pioneers who conquered the great wilderness of the West, are one by one dropping into that "dreamless sleep" that will forever kiss their eyelids down, while we enjoy the fruits of their hardships. Thousands of noble men have fallen and "no friend taken note of their departure." This should not be, all should strive to make those who are in the evening of life as happy and comfortable as possible. The great dread of every ambitious, noble, great-souled man is, that when he dies the world will forget he ever lived. The very thoughts of this forgetfulness causes him to cling to life, and work with never ending energy, that their names may be honorably mentioned by generations that are yet unborn.

Vera McLeod
Thanks for the link to Vera McLeod's parents. Are you related to them? Vera's husband, Gilford, was my father's first cousin.

Mahala Monroe Edwards
Thanks for the correction. Mahala is something of a mystery--listed as Mahalia Johnson in 1850; Mahala Stephens in 1860 (living with mother and step-father); married as Mahala Stephens in 1865; but then reporting Mahala Monroe on her children's birth records. I can't tell if her mother was never married, married and divorced, or married and widowed, in 1850; but Mahala appears to be the grandchild of Matilda Monroe, born about 1808, living Estill Co., in 1850.

RE: Marion Underwood photo request @ Riverside
Very welcome! It was a difficult one to photograph, as there are all flat stones in the area. Hope its helpful.

Marion UNderwood photo request @ Riverside
I wanted to let you know that there has been a stone placed for Marion Underwood at Riverside.

I might be able to provide you an area location with an indication as to where the stone could be placed as an indication for you.

I'll see what I can come up with for you within a week.

Apologies. I neglect to run the edit prior to transferring the memorial to you. Would you please delete your request and update the memorial yourself?
