RE: Michael Hodax
As it turns out, mine is older. So, I asked her to delete hers.

RE: Michael Hodax
I misunderstood what you were saying...It is not the cemetery that has two records, but findagrave. And yes, mine is a duplicate of albfirely's. I will update hers and delete mine if her's is older.

RE: Michael Hodax
The best way to find NYC birth, death, and marriage certificate information is to go to stevemorse.org and scroll down about halfway to a section headed "Births, Deaths, and Other Vital Records". When you enter the name, the results come back with the NYC borough, certificate number, and microfilm number for the Mormon Family History Library.

It is so easy to do that I often add the information to findagrave memorials that I create.

By the way, thank you for letting me know the posting was helpful. That's why I do it. So many people have posted helpful memorials in places I never get to, that I am glad to return the favor when I can.

RE: Michael Hodax
What I can tell you is that, to the right of Michael Hodax is buried Harry Cohen (d.2 Nov 1958) and to Harry's right is Solomon Gordon (d. 11 May 1986). This may help you determine and compare the locations of the 2 Michael Hodax's.

I learned something bizarre that may help you with this... In one instance, I found 3 records at a NY cemetery for someone with the same name, in the same section, but with different dates of death, but I could only find one gravestone. I went to the counter at the cemetery office and inquired. After much head scratching, the person who was helping me went to the original records and found that one record was for the left leg, one for the right leg and one for the rest of the body. It turns out that Orthodox Jews bury amputated parts in much the same way as they bury a whole person, and the cemetery records them separately.

RE: Michael Hodax
I'm sorry. That partial picture is all I have. It was in the frame of another picture that I took, and I posted what I had on the theory that something is better than nothing. I wish I could help more.

I have found that the ages of people of that generation were often not really known and people made guesses when they spoke to census takers, gave information for death certificates, or ordered headstones. Dates of birth are most reliable when they come from the person themselves and the younger they were, the more accurate.

Hi Regina
looks like I misinterpreted the last line of the inscription on the marker. On another cemetery site there is a photo of the marker that had recently been chalked to make it easier to read. I shall delete the entry I made. Sorry I caused confusion and thank you for bringing it to my attention

RE: Ben Young
Actually, that page was created by "Woodlawn Volunteers" (see the bottom left side)....I only took the gate shot for the cemetery, which is why my name shows up under the photo.

If you click on the "Edit" tab in the upper right corner, and then on the "Suggest a correction or...." link on the following page, you can send them a message and ask about the entry.

However, from the California Death Index, it looks like that Ben Young was born 4/11/1902 in Mississippi, and died in Los Angeles County on 6/20/1974.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.....
