RE: Lazar and Sava Marovich
Hi John ... Italy is what I came up with also. That's why I wanted to know more information be certain :-)

I will definitely check for other Marovich stones and get back with you.

RE: Lazar and Sava Marovich
I will be very happy to check in to this for you.

Unfortunately, Oak Hill Cemetery has had some very difficult times over the last 10-20 years and was recently taken over by the Trustee in Hammond, Indiana. This is a VERY good thing though ... volunteers have been working hard to get the cemetery back in to shape and it's looking better every single day. There were some shady goings on there for quite some time and behind some fencing stacks of headstones were placed in an effort to reuse older, unattended graves. Efforts this past summer had volunteers placing the stones back where they belong. Also, due to neglect many stones sunk into the ground and disappeared. They are currently working on locating all sunken stones. It's possible your Michael's stone may have sunk if he is, indeed, at Oak Hill in Hammond. I will check the records to see if I can find your Michael killed during WWII. Do you know the year of his birth??? That will help me in locating him if he's not at Oak Hill. Do you know anything about his military history ... say the Company he was in? If I can't locate him through cemetery records I might be able to locate him through military records.

I am extremely thankful for all the wonderful volunteers who have worked so hard bringing Oak Hill back to peak shape and I will continue to help in any way I can.

I saw a picture you had taken of my grandparents' tombstone in Hammond Indiana. Next to it should have been a memorial for one of their sons, I believe Mike, who was killed in WWII. I could not find the correct Mike Marovich on this website. Would it be convenient for you to check to see whether there is a Mike Marovich there or if it was another son of theirs? I am relying on memories from 1960 or so. I am currently living in Smokvica, Croatia and want to do some research on my Grandparents.
