RE: HARRISON STOWERS
Colleen, this is all the information I have on my A.H.Stowers.

A.H.Stowers (born in Hancock Co, KY ?) was the son of John Stowers of Richmond Co, Virginia.

From "History of KY", by Chas. Kerr etal, page 110: Harrison was a pioneer of Daviess County who came from Ohio County and was of Scotch lineage. Census of 1840, Daviess Co KY, lists Harrison Stowers

Census of 1850, Daviess Co KY, District 1, shows A.H.Stowers age 32, E.B.Stowers, wife age 26, and children James, Cathn & Peter, all born in KY.

Slave schedule of 1850 shows A. H. Stowers owning 4 slaves, ages 10 to 40, 3 males and 1 female.

Census of 1860, Daviess Co KY, PO Owensboro, shows A.H.Stowers age 42, E.B.Stowers, wife age 36, and children Jas W, Kate L, Peter and Eliza.

The Stowers Cemetery located near Sorgho had only 12 readable stones by 1958.

Good Hunting, Cathy

I'm sorry Colleen, I forgot. Give me a couple of days and I'll get back to you. I have to get the info from my daughter and she will have to get info from her son. I'm not sure if Roxanne has a facebook account. Jane

Stowers
Umm, I didn't save it but will try and find it. I'll talk to my daughter about how to get a hold of the person that lived in the house or knows more about it.

Stowers
Colleen,

After doing some checking on this family I am fairly certain this is the same family you are looking for. In one of the census it did list a black girl slave (servant) by the name of Lura Howel (I think it was) The spelling may have been different. It's hard to read some of the census'. She was listed as living with an Andrew Harrison Stowers in Daviess Co. Ky. I don't believe it told where she was born other than KY. Andrew Harrison Stowers is buried in the Stowers family graveyard on the Stowers property. Yes, I know exactly where the house is, I have been there several times. Like I mentioned in another message to you that it was a big, beautiful house. Roxanne (Stowers) last name now unknown, has just recently sold the house but she told me several years ago that she had remodeled the house some. I do however know how to get a hold of her son, he is a facebook friend of my daughter's. Hope I helped you out some on this. Found this info:

Stowers
Well actually I know someone (Roxanne Stowers) that lived in a house next to the Stowers graveyard but don't know how to get a hold of her since she has remarried. She lived in the old Stowers house; the house was so large and was built with an extra kitchen for the slaves to eat in, it was so cool.

Stowers
Colleen,

Sorry but I don't have any info on these people. I have 6 Stowers listed with 4 of them being buried in Greenwood (black cemetery) one of the other Stowers I have posted has the middle name of Harrison. I will look a little more into this when I have a little extra time but in the mean time...good luck.
