Milton Wylie Humphreys
Dear Mr. Barie,
I am a great-great-nephew of Milton Wylie Humphreys. I noted that his middle name is spelled "Wiley" in the Find A Grave entry. I'm glad to see your entry in the U.VA. Cemetery as an article written about him many years ago stated that he was buried in the Chapel. I was changing trains in Charlottesville once and had time to go to the campus and check the Chapel. The janitor told me that no one was buried in same. Later I wrote to the University Archives and received details of his burial site in the cemetery. My grandmother, Bessie Humphreys Reffeitt (Mrs. Daniel B. Reffeitt) was also born at Alvon on Anthony's Creek, Greenbrier Co. It is about 10 miles north of White Sulphur Springs and the famed Greenbrier Hotel. I have done extensive research of Dr. Humphreys and also secured a photocopy of his transcript from the University of Leipzig, Germany, where he received his doctorate in ancient languages. I am retired from the Special Collections Department, James E. Morrow Library, Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia. [] Kenneth R. Reffeitt, Collection Specialist Emeritus
