Bio Photo I am a very ambitious person. I believe helping others and history is important. People need to know where they came from and if taking a picture can help, why not help out.

I. T Epps
As I indicated in my first post, I emailed the local historian, Clark Johnson (email He almost instantly responded with the following message:

We are very well acquainted with Dr. I. T. Epps. His house is featured in our book Travels through Troup County, page 84. It still stands on the south side of Fannin Street at the corner of Hamilton road, known as Epps Corner, a two story, gabled ell Victorian style house. His office was in the house as well. He was the 3rd black physician to live in LaGrange. He built the house about 1892. He came here from the Athens, Ga area. Many prominent black educators lived in the house, including some of Dr. Epps daughters. Hope this helps. Clark

I still have a question as to whether you are interested in the Epps Sr. or Epps Jr, but I guess it is the Sr. However, I think Clark's response should help regardless. If you have additional questions, you should email Clark Johnson directly. He is very knowledgeable on local history.

I. T. Epps
I have two listings for I. T. Epps: Isiah T. Epps Sr, and Isiah T. Epps Jr. I am sorry, but I have no additional data myself, except to say that Southview Cemetery in LaGrange is a predominately black cemetery. There are a total of 19 individuals in Southview with either a last name of Epps or a maiden name of Epps. None of them have a first name like the ones you mentioned. I also examined the row around the two graves, and there was only one close. A "Mary Beth Scott (1929-2003). Unfortunately, the years are right if she is the "mother". Sorry I can't be of more help.

I will ask the historian in the Troup County Archives he has ever heard of a physician neamed Isiah T. Epps living in LaGrange.

Opps, I put the wrong name down! Thanks for the Robert McKay picture. I'd given up hope on that one.
