Amy, I have this information on your Long family
branch. Melvin Porter Long was the s/o Dickerson
T. Long and Elizabeth (?)Long. He was born abt.
1843 in Tennessee. In the 1850 census, he was living in District 10, Monroe, Tennessee. He
served in the Civil War, Pvt. Service Data,
Cos. B. & F., 3rd Tenn. Cav. In the 1910 he was
age 67 living in St. Elmo, Hamilton Co., Tn. with his wife Nancy J. Long. Their children listed in
this census is James D., Ethel, Cora, Grace, Herbert, and Nellie.
Dickerson T. Long was a prisoner of War from 1861/65, he was a confederate soldier. He was born
Aug. 1820 and d. Dec. 1, 1868 and he is buried in
the Etowah Cemetery, McMinn Co., Tennessee.
I find this very interesting and will see if he
is any of my Long's. They also lived in McMinn
Co., and around Etowah, Athens, Riceville. There
is a HUGE group of Long's, it's hard to figure
them all out? Hope this help's you, you may have this info all ready? I enjoy helping and I'm a
member of ancestry, so if I can help out, please let me know. Have a pleasant evening. Phyllis 'Long' Rhodes

I am sorry that I can't help you. My only connection is through his wife. I do not have any information on his line.
