Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a second year archaeology student at Hocking College. I was born and raised in Hocking County, so I'm distantly related to almost every old family here. I enjoy prehistoric archaeology, however, for my historic archaeology class I did my project on the Chambers-Grubb cemetery in Hocking County, and finally found some historic archaeology that I enjoy. My wife Adrien is an STNA and usually my photographer. She enjoys the geneology side of the old cemeteries and doing the research to find out who these people were and what they did. We are photo volunteers and are more than happy to get pictures for the cemeteries near us in our free time.

Chambers-Grubb Cemetery
Thanks for your research and work in the Chambers-Grubb Cemetery. The pictures are great. I just hope someday this cemetery can be preserved, so it can be around another 150 years. I am the 5th great-grandson of Alexander Chambers and 4th great-grandson of John Grubb.

RE: Friend Cemetery
It's on the left side of Sam Carr Rd. The hill overlooks 180. From the aerial photo it appears there is a clearing at the top. I'm guessing that's where the house was. Ten years ago Larry Gerstner owned the property. He doesn't live there and he wouldn't care about anyone going up there. It's just investment property to him. Since the county recognizes it as a cemetery, it has to be accessible to the public.

RE: Friend Cemetery
Chad, I didn't know you were looking for the Friend Cemetery. It's not hard to locate. Last I knew Larry Gerstner owned the land. It's at the top of a very steep hill. It's not really a cemetery as there really is only William's grave. It's importance I think is that it's where William's home was. I did go out there a few years ago and took one look at the climb to the top of that hill and said, uh maybe not. There is no road up to it.
William Friend is special to me since he married Sarah White, making all his descendants double cousins.

Michael Nigh
Thank you VERY much for the photo of Michael Nigh's grave. It is very sad to see how badly this cemetery is maintained and I am hopeful that it will not be lost forever.

Have a great holiday and thanks again.
