RE: Old Shady Grove Cemetery
Dave if and when you get to Old Shady Grove Cemetery if you will, I hope you will let
me know how the condition is...It would just be such a shame for these headstone to diappear. Also I am sure we did not get all the Glenn's exted further back then we were able to go in the time available. Thanks, Marilyn

RE: Old Shady Grove Cemetery
I put most of what I personally have on there I think though not the Arnolds. I started to but was with other family members I had talked into going. They were ready to leave and I was not driving.

Samuel Dennis Arnold married Elizabeth W Glenn a daughter of John Lewis Glenn and Jane Womack.

Some of my relatives from this area are double related. Used to scare me a little.

Are you related to the Glenn's at all? You do not feel you add the newer pictures to the site that exists? I don't think you need to create a new one. I think I have already added the ones I put in to the Old Cemetery databse and some may be int he newer where I may have put them before I realized there were two distinct ones.

I love this old cemetery, Dave. I have been there three times all some time back. It was awe-inspiring though somewhat depressing it was allowed to fall into such disrepair. I could get no action though to try to improve it.

It is if I remember correctly to the left of the newer cemetery and straight back through the wooded area quite a ways...There is not as far as I know an easy way in. My cousin who tracked it down for us in his piper cub is much older and has had a bad stroke. He would not longer be of much help I think...he said it is very visable from the air but when he would go down there he had trouble finding it anyway...he just knew it was there from above. I asked my brother who was with and my cousin but neither remembers as much as I do oddly enough...but to be aware do not expect tall stones. They are very very old and have sunk into the ground. We had to pull dirt away from around the part that was still aboce ground to read many of the insciptions. This much later I am not sure what is left. I can send you the drawing we made of the layout if it will help...but mostly Glenn's are shown. I would need to send it to your private email though because I would need to make a jpeg or pdf. I might be able to paste it into a word doc though.. Let me know/

RE: Old Shady Grove Cemetery
yes I believe you are correct - that they are not that far apart. Gail Morgeson would likely be grat person to contact and is whom I mentioned I might be able put you in touch with about the cemetery. She lives, if I remember correctly very near to it...

The Cemetery itself is not I think on Glenn property but there is a Glenn descendant not far away living on some of the original land grant. Her name is
Martha I think on it she land may be either very near the cemetery or it may be on her land. I think you may want to contact her..

RE: Old Shady Grove Cemetery
Hi Dave yes there re definitely two Shady Grove Cemeteries but not far apart. Which one did you go to? The one these headstones are in is an old abandoned portion near the Methodist Church and supposedly jut a bit further on is the newer one but not in the overgrown wooded area where the older stones are. This older one even has cows wandering around in it as well as tics, jiggers, and mosquitos and bees!! Be sure to cover up and wear repellent. I will be glad to try to help more if this does not do it. I may even have a map. Marilyn
