Grandpa Charles Rilling married Adella Butler. Charles's mother and sister took Adella in after she left Lyman. They were divorced sometime early in 1880. Lyman married Heneritta and I have found them on Ancestry (I have an account, lots of pictures if you would like access please let me know) Lyman and Heneretta never had any children. They traveled and he was very successful in his business. I found Chloe in an aslyum on one of the census she was a young woman. Could have been for a medical reason. I met my Great Uncle Ernie, went fishing with him and listened to his stories. I also knew Miriam well she was my great grandmother. Charles raised Clara Dunning as if she were his child. Claude fell off a horse as a teen and injured his spine. The only time he was straight was after the car accident that killed him. Ernie and Claude never married. It is truly a wonderful love story as Adella and Charles had a great love and respect for each other. thank you for letting me share it with someone.
You are wonderful. Thank you so much for asking someone that question. I talked to a woman years ago and I have the proof that Adella never married Charles Dunning and the woman I talked to said that it was handed down in the family. I have marriage certificates for Charles Rilling and Clara Dunning is still an baby. I am going to write and see if I can get a copy of the divorce decree as Adella said that the children were given to Lyman because Adella could not support them and he was a pharmacist/could provide for the children but he gave the children to his father. I have a picture of a couple of the children with my great grandmother's writing "half-sister" across the bottom. They had contact there was correspondence between them. Again, Thank you a million times over I would really like this cleared up either way but just the truth...Meg
there are a lot of dunning graves (lyman's sibblings) at this cemetery..
on chloie's grave he says she is a child of lyman and adelle butler. i wrote & told him ancestry sources show adelle butler as 2nd wife of charles (lyman's father)...and asked if he had info to disprove that. thought u might be interested...deb

From the few minutes I just spent on ancestry checking, there was a very brief marriage between Adella and Lyman Dunning.
But Adella married Charles Joseph Rilling Jan 1 1880 and they had the children listed below that u mentioned.
Charles Joseph Rilling 1850 – 1932
Claude M Rilling 1881 – 1924
Miriam Rose Rilling 1883 – 1973
Ernst Lotton Rilling 1885 – 1966
Here is Adella's grave site
She is linked to Charles Rilling as husband, and one of her children, Claude. He is a Rilling
The Pettigrew family trees all have him married to Henrietta, and Henrietta & Lyman are also listed in many directories as husband & wife beginning in 1903.
