|Carla Hass||RE: Rueve girls|
Hi Dan -
This is so exciting! The only person I ever met from my grandmother's family was Aunt Edith. I remember visiting with her and Uncle Sper when I was young - our first trip to Duluth in the mid 60's. Went went back a few times but she had passed away. I found her name and Eva's on the 1920 census living in Duluth with their mother and sister Amelia, who had married my grandfather (his second wife). Eva was 22 and working as a seamstress. My grandmother died less than a year after my father was born so he had no memory of her. He ended up living in an orphanage for a number of years until his sisters were old enough to care for him - Edith and Sper wanted to adopt him but my Grandfather Hass refused. My mother has done some genealogy research. She got most of her information from a woman named Martha - I'm not sure which daughter was her mother but she refers to Aunt Eva in her letter. When I discovered find a grave last year I tried to piece together as much as I could and was able to get some nice photos of grave markers from volunteers. I do have a rather blurry photo of the entire family that Martha sent to my mother - that is where I got the photos for each of the girls. That is the only photo I have of my grandmother, although I could definitely see her features in my aunts and uncles - they are all gone now, as is my father. I'd be happy to share the bits that I have - it isn't much. Did your mother have old photos? I would love to see what the girls looked like a little more clearly :-) I've been trying to get some info on the parents of both Gus and Amelia Kleeman Rueve in Glandorf but no luck so far. I live in Central PA, so it is a bit of a drive to get to western Ohio - not a day trip.
Thanks so much for getting in touch!
