I retired from teaching in Jan 2014. Prior to this I had worked on my family tree sporadically so am excited to be working on all my lines. I have a lot of photos of graves from the Brooks Hill, Brooks-Crites, and Pickens IOOF cemetery so hope to have those uploaded soon. Most of my family is buried "south of Buckhannon WV" and I live in Missouri. I travel back east to look for these graves a couple times a year.|
If you wish to use any of my photos, you have my permission to do so as long as it is in a not-for-profit publication. If you wish to use it in a profit publication, please contact me for a written consent for use.

Hello! Thank you for contacting me. I believe my direct ancestor of this couple is their son William. He fought in the Civil War and then moved to Kansas. Not positive as it was a long time ago that I had looked into this. Can you tell me please where exactly you found the message from me saying that I am a direct decendent of this family? I know that I am, but cannot remember where it was that I wrote that. Unofrtunately, I don't have any information about their son Ira for you. Thank you.

Sorry, I don't live anywhere near the cemetery and have never been there. So I just have to depend on others for any photos or info. Good luck, though. Hope you are able to find her.

Sorry, I haven't. I don't live near WV and have never been to the cemetery. Don't know how good their record keeping has been, but you might try to contact the cemetery. Good luck.

Thanks for the prompt reply! I also found a couple other cemeteries with Alkires: Highland in Ritchie county and Alkire/Bragg in Braxton county. There seems to be two branches of Alkires. I am looking for Eliza, daughter of Joseph and Susan(Coburn). Joseph was the son of John and Christina. Eliza married Nimrod B. Smith. The info listed about John and Christina in Forest Lawn, Jane Lew seems not to be documented at all and I am inclined to believe they are not buried there. So, thanks for your help. I may be taking a drive down there in the spring as I am in Monongahela,Pa( about 2 1/2 hours north) I also may go to the library in Hooker, WV to pursue some leads especially since it is near ALkires Mills, WV which was a post office and village now "under water" from the Jackson Lake project. If I can help you in any way, let me know. Ed Hartshorn

I am researching the Hartshorn/Smith/Alkire families and came across your note asking about documentation on their gravesites in Forest Lawn cemetery, Jane Lew, WV. Did you ever receive any info on them? Like you, I am skeptical of info provided with no documentation if there is no gravestone. I do not want to add this info to my family genealogy with further proof( although I would dearly love to have the site to be accurate) Let me know at your convenience.
thanks...Ed Hartshorn, Monongahela, Pa

It's very kind of you to remember me. I'm glad you got the chance to 'stop by and visit the folks', as it were.
