Hi, Bruce,

Yes, you can use the photos for your family tree. Glad I could help.

Anna E. Thon Solo
Hello:

I saw the photos that you posted on her page, and they are for Claude Solo, who is definitely buried in that plot:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=65536844

Those upright markers are Civil War markers for Claude, so I would remove them. There is an inscription on the one side of the monument visible for Claude, but not for anyone else.

As for Anna, I never found the evidence she was buried there, although she might be. The records for Mt. Carmel are incomplete, due to movement between parishes, various fires, and now the transfer to OLOH (Archdiocese of Detroit). Most everything before 1905-1910 is missing or incomplete. I walked the cemetery over a three year period, and photographed all of it (I go over there once a month or so to enter new burials.) I have a problem file that I am still working on (trying to read some of the stones--I just identified one that I had taken two years ago, so it can be done!), and am working with the site to clean up that cemetery. I am trying to weed out the mess that an inactive contributor left behind. If you have questions that the cemetery can't answer, try going to the Bacon Library in Wyandotte. In the local history room on the second floor, they have a set of transcriptions of Mt. Carmel that were done by the Downriver Genealogical Society that have been very helpful if you get stuck.

As for the designation "single grave," that means it is in-between rows (many are children or cremations, and there are entire parts of D, A and the very old single sections on the sides. They are also referred to as the potter's field.) You will find these in many of the sections. O is an old section, and most of those records are lost as well.

If you need any help, let me know.

Have a good day,
TLIB

You're very welcome. You can now update Elsie's dates. I also created and posted photos of 2 other Cate's. These stones are all together. In the cemetery photo, the one showing the steps from the church, the Cate's are buried far left next to the parking lot, just out of sight in the photo. Diane
