It wasn't only this family - at least 1/3 of Hollywood has no markers. When Oakland Cemetery lots were all sold, they also closed the indigent section, so people had to go somewhere else. The lots were cheap ($12.50), so many were buried there, because of the price. Many, many, just never got headstones. Really sad and also the fact that the cemetery is in such terrible condition and in such a bad neighborhood now. It wasn't always that way. The owners are not interested in those buried there, just the money they can get for lots.

I know.....the tombstones in that cemetery are in terrible shape. I couldn't have done it if I hadn't bought the cemetery book from the Tusc. Gen. Society that had the cemetery in it. Even then, it was hard to follow the names in the book down the row of stones as there are so many missing & I was unable to read a lot of them.
I went there twice to try to get it all figured out. The books for that county are not made out very good either. They don't put in maps of the cem. or number the rows. So, you don't know where to start.

David, I am so happy that you found your relatives at Hollywood. I also added a death certificate to Mariah's page - maybe it will help you in some way. It is under the original page ID# 75444261. Patricia Farmer is somewhat kin to me. I will ask her to delete the other memorial and move the picture to the original page. At this time, I would like to keep the memorials as I am still working on Hollywood - so fat, this has been an 11 year endeavor to list everyone buried at Hollywood and research and link them as much as possible. It is nice people like you who are willing to help. Please leave flowers on their pages and in the note state your relationship to them. This helps others who are kin to the people on the memorial pages to connect to you - a great way to find living cousins. Please send any links that you wish and I will add them right away. Warmly, Judy K. Wilson

I want to thank you for all the precious time you took to get the info for Eva (Munger) Getz. I have added the new info to her memorial. I have also linked her to her parents.
Thanks for everything.

Hi thanks for your message. I have more photos of the church and graveyard if you ever need more. I'm afraid this is a common problem I've encountered trying to help people with their photo requests here in England. Most churches I have thus far attended do not have a headstone remaining that dates much before 1800 although sometimes important residents like knights or MPs have been buried inside the church and they of course can go back as far as the 14th century. I have been going to the county archives and looking into families like the Puthams and Baldwins and so far I have found they are still buried in these various graveyards but sometimes they've been moved and of course no stones remain. But I always try to add any photos of the church or churchyard that I can it always makes the memorial more personal.

It was no problem. The stone is located at the top of the cemetery directly behind the big statue of Jesus on the cross. Also I didn't realize that the photo uploaded upside down till I just looked at it. I will repost later this evening. Have a good day.

Thanks for the photo of Elvie Fletcher's memorial. I sure appreciate it!

You're welcome David. If there are any others you'd like that you haven't requested yet, let me know. I live right here in town.
