So I forgot to ask what happened to your grandfather after there mother died? he was younger than Andrew? did he go to the orphanage to?

Hi again thanks for getting back to me. I was really hoping you would able able to tell us why Andrew went to the orphanage and told all his children he didn't know who his parents were. Even though I know he knew because on his marriage license (1930) he named them (Charles Sampson and Captola Doud) The Captola through me off though and I have been researching another couple as possible parents but now with you knowing his mothers maiden name it makes it easier.

But I'm not sure if thats him on the 1910 census because I found him in 1910 living with William Hendra in Sanilac county as a "hired boy", and when he filled out his draft card in 1917 he listed Hendra as his nearest relative? The birthdate on the draft card has the same month and year as on his death cert the day is a little off one say the 9th the other the 29th. So I really think thats him.

As I said Andrew's children believed he did not know who his parents are, were both his parents white? because he claimed to be American Indian? He had quite a dark complection (As did all his sons). I was actually researching a black couple from the Macosta County area as possible parents LOL.

Anyway I am in contact with one of his grandsons (Allen Sampson) he lives in Hale MI and I actually just mailed him all the information so he could get it to the State Of MI so he can access the orphanges records (I couldn't do it because I am not a direct decendent of Andrews)I will let you know if we find out anything on that.

I can send you copies of the records I have for him if you would like them, just let me know.

Are there any photos available of the ancestors? I have one of Andrew (its not the best quality) One of his son James, one of John (who went by Jack), and Jacks son Allen when he was young, and one of Leonard his wife and there son Larry.

Let me know my e-mail is thanks again,
I do have my tree on Familysearch.
