|Lettie Kirby||RE: Amanda White / Tezon / Webster|
My information came from the death certificate mentioned, the stone and family information I already have... for some reason the family has always denied her marriage to William Webster. As you have likely found out the headstones are usually more accurate on birth & death dates than the death certificates on file. Many death certificates are informed on by family members who are not sure of the year but give their best guess. As for Amanda's parents to this date, I am still not sure if I have this correct... but it is an interesting story I cannot prove. I have only 1 source which shows Eber as her father and the 1 source which shows James as her father. I have not been able to prove or disprove either. According to family lore Mandy went by White but her sons say she was of Indian decent, hence the name Whitehurse(IE: Whitehorse) . Which she denied her entire life. Her son George was the informant on her death certificate which explains that info. I have gone to the Indian Rolls and experts and found very little. There was at the time of her supposed birth in (1841 according to the headestone) southern MO. an Indian tribe which traded and hunted with the fur trappers of St. Louis, MO. Many of their woman married trappers in St. Louis however most were then shunned by their tribes and seemingly written out of the Indian Rolls. (It was said that Eber had several concubines which were Indian... which was popular at the time.Indian women believed children belonged to the father, not themselves.) So if Mandy was raised by Eber, it is still possible that she would deny her Indian Heritage. Or it is also possible that she claimed this birth date of Eber's daughter to give herself a White family so that she could deny her Indian Heritage. So many possibilities, but little info in the era (1840 to 1846) of her birth. If you have more info or know where to locate more which could clear up this mystery, please share it!
Amanda is my Great Grandmother.
Best Wishes, Lettie
