NEW YORK: My maternal grandfather, Harry Nelson Foshay, was a teacher in the Peekskill school system, and my great grandfather was Dr. J. Russell Foshay of Peekskill, New York. I am the great great granddaughter of Nelson Gray Foshay and Amanda Wright Wessells, owners of the Highland Democrat newspaper of Westchester County, New York. Many Pierce, Pugsley, Palmer, Wessells, etc hail from this branch. My great grandparents, Wilhelm Magnus Hiort (Hjort) and Charlotta Olivia Andersson, both hailed from Sweden and settled in Peekskill. I take great joy in tracing the family line in Westchester County, New York.|
PENNSYLVANIA: My paternal grandfather, Carl Christian Bach hailed from Germany but it was his father, Herman Bach who along with a brother, Christian, found their way to the USA and settled in Luzerne County. My paternal grandmother, Anna Helena Andersson, along with her siblings each made their way from Sweden to the USA settling in Luzerne county.
"I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond.
And their eyes were my eyes.
5 The sun also riseth, and the sun goeth down,
and hasteth to his place where he arose."
From Ecclesiastes Chapter 1:
Like branches on a tree, our lives may grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.

I love that the Highland Democrat is available on Fulton Postcards site- it seems just certain pages from various issues have been scanned in, Is there a direct site? When my back is hurting I find uploading obituaries and photogrphs when I can find them occupied my 'graving ' craving

I tried really hard to get the best photo but the surface shine was tough to work with. I may try again on a very cloudy day. Your namesake :)

I saw you left a note on Lydia Sweet's memorial #26805027 and I was wondering if you happen to be related to her? She is my 5th great grandmother.

|Pat||RE: Pierces at Chappaqua|
Added a couple extra Pierces I came across. Still have a few photos to upload. Cemetery isn't in great shape--headstones very worn, lots of overgrowth, poison ivy everywhere. I think a lot of the remaining photo requests are in a more inaccessible area (well, unless you *like* poison ivy), so may not get filled any time soon!

Several of the requests you sent me are already in the cemetery and photographed Augustus Flewwellin is spelled with 2 W's which probably is your confusion- would you delete your entries that are differently spelled?
|Havilands.org||RE: Rachel M. Anderson Haviland|
Ugh, it looks like her husband and son are also duplicates. I'll delete all three of the records I created, as I think her photos are better. --Chris
|Tucker Lieberman||RE: Mary Miller Foshay|
Sure! There are so many Foshays in this cemetery! I photographed a few others, too. So if you search Hillside Cemetery for Foshay, you might see a few new names that weren't there yesterday.
I did come across Clara in a family plot.
