I am researching my family tree which includes the surnames of CARLISLE, BYARS, DANIEL, HORTON, KIMBROUGH, COLBURN, and COVINGTON who lived (and some still do) in Franklin County, AL. The Carlisles also were associated with Jefferson and Jackson County, AL.

RE: Union Hill Cemetery Request
Bettye,

Good Luck with that administrator. Perhaps, he might have a picture already for you.

I worked for a Rudy Bunch here in Birmingham many years ago. He and his wife were next door neighbors to my parents. He and his wife moved back to Knoxville. He had two sons, one is not living, but the other was involved with law enforcement.

I'm original from Oklahoma. ha

Let me know if I can help.

RE: Union Hill Cemetery Request
Bettye,

You are not that far away and the cemetery is very small and finding the memorial should be pretty easy. Also, I would think, you should have no trouble getting permission based on what you are saying. If he will let you use a proxy (me) to secure the pictures for you, just let me know.

Keep in mind, the descendants of the cemetery pay for the up-keep of this cemetery, so they might try to put the bite on you. haha

Union Hill is located on Hwy 280 & Hollywood Blvd. You just have to exit the ramp onto Hollywood Blvd and the cemetery is on the right.

You aren't related to Rudy Bunch of Knoxville, TN are you?

Best Regards,

Union Hill Cemetery Request
Bettye,

Here is a link to the Union Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

http://www.nonprofitpages.com/unionhillcemetery/

The memorial you are requesting a pic for does have a gravestone marker in this cemetery according to the public information.

The problem is the cemetery is private, gated, locked, & posted. Only family members have access and non-family must seek permission to enter from the administrator.

I have written for that permission a couple of times and never received a response, but perhaps if you are closely enough related, you might get some cooperation if you write them. The administrator's email address is in the link I am sending you.

Good Luck,

RE: Longacre Cemetery
So far, the Carlisles are not in my familhy tree. I just got interested from a photo request. I spent all weekend taking photos in Pisgah Cemetery in Kennamer's Cove. Hopefully, it won't be as hot this next weekend. I might try to get to Longacre on Saturday. I will let you know - maybe we oculd meet. I always say that 2 heads (eyes) are better than one!

RE: Longacre Cemetery
I mainly looked around where the other Carlisles were buried. I was assuming that it was flush with the ground but I did not see anything. I don't remember seeing a fence at the cemetery unless it is on the right side. This is the side that use to be grown up terribly. It has now been cleaned up and white rebar crosses have been placed at many of the unmarked graves. I have not walked this side of the cemetery since I could not see any headstones. However, you now have me intrigued. I might have to go and see if there is a fence and see if I can find anything!!
