RE: Theopolis Abair's Parents Thanks Bob, Theophilus Abair and Mary Louise Girard had 11 children. Some of their grandchildren should be still living in Ludlow, MA. Their son Alphonse Leo married Gertrude Gokey. I know a guy who researches Gokey/Gauthier, maybe he has something. I'll try to reach him and ask. Josephine Mayo Abair died in Springfield (probably Indian Orchard), Hampden, MA. ,Feb. 12, 1899. Her death record would be in Springfield's city clerk's vital records. here's the address where to write. You would be able to send them a check and a stamped self addressed envelope, they will send you a long certified copy.. I think $15.00. Springfield City Hall, Clerk's Office, 35 Court St., Springfield, MA. 01103-1698. Anything that has Indian Orchard will be in Springfield, MA. records. Their marriage record would also be there. You may be able to call Chazy, NY city hall to ask about the marriages. I have a book for St. Mary's Church B/D/M, but that's in Champlain, Clinton Co., NY. Maybe something will come up soon.
RE: Theopolis Abair's Parents Hi Bob, I copied your message and added some of it to my family tree. I have the marriages for Theophilus Abair and Mary Louise Girard & Maryette Abair & J.E. Meagher as Indian Orchard, MA. Mary's parents were Oliver Girard and Odelie Fournier.
I don't know who the MItchel family was. Probably a neighbor or roomer. They took in people backj in those days as boarders. I'll look up the 1880 census and see what it says. Wonder if Harriet Mitchel was an Abair? Many of the Indian Orchard marriages were at St. Aloysius Church in Indian Orchard, MA. which is part of Springfield. There's no longer a St. Aloysius Church, it's now St. Jude.
I'll look for the city directorie to find Philip or Josephine. Sometimes they tell the death of the spouse.
Thanks for the info. Will stay in touch with any news.
RE: Theopolis Abair's Parents I'm looking for them too. I found them in the 1870 Census for Alburgh, Grand Isle, VT. Philip Abair(Abear) age 28 born Canada, Josephine (wife) age 34 born Canada; son age 4 Looks like Arfie/Alfie (must be Theopolis) born in NY, daughter Amelia age 3, born NY, daughter Maryette, age 1, born Vermont. Philip's occupation was a "Cooper", Josephine's was "keeping house", and the children, "at home".
