Bio and Links
Bio Photo My father, James Gordon Wood, was an avid genealogist, and he inspired me to continue researching my grandchildren's line, so that I can pass down their lines to them and their children. I'm grateful for this website to make it easier to find our ancestors. I'm married to Edward Wesley Skeeters, and we live in Round Rock, TX.

When are you traveling to Kentucky? I visited my mother today and picked up a binder of Skeeters family information (lots of bits and pieces she collected over several decades of research). I don't know if anything in there would be helpful, but if you'd like to see it when you're here, I'd be happy to let you look through it.

RE: More info about Skeeters
You may also want to check out the Hardin County Museum when you visit. They have some good information about immigrants to Hardin County. Kentucky was considered the "West Coast" of America back then. Also there is a library there -- the Ancestral Trails Historical Society. You may be able to find some good information there as well. I'm a member of it and have found it valuable for research purposes.

Hi Meredith,

I'd love to know what branch of the tree your husband descends?

Yes, Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hardin County is the final resting place and epicenter the Skeeters family that immigrated to Hardin County, Kentucky (far from Norfolk, England where they originated).

John H Skeeters is the son of Josiah Joseph Skeeters. John H is buried in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. I believe Josiah may be buried there as well.

I descend through John H.'s son William H.

William H. is buried in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery too.

William H.'s son was George T Skeeters (he's buried in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery also) and his daughter was my great-grandmother, Lula Mae Skeeters Cundiff. She's buried in the Howe Valley Cemetery. Her family grew up in East View and along Meeting Creek. Her brother, Virgil Lee Skeeters, is buried about a mile from where I live in Louisville in Cave Hill Cemetery.

There may not be grave markers for some of the above in Pleasant Grove. If you do visit, please take a few photos and add them to the memorials on this website. I haven't visited that cemetery in a number of years.

These areas are very rural. I have a tree on Ancestry.com and have posted a number of photos of Skeeters family relatives.

Are you researching any other families while you are here? Shoot me the surnames -- many of these families inter-married and stuck close together.

Meredith,
I added a picture of Fred Stokley and his wife Everett Boggs to their Find A Grave memorials.

You are so welcome! I was there in the late afternoon and shooting into the setting sun so the picture isn't that great.
