Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am interested in my family history and where my family originated from. I have only started my search recently for the Galbraith family in Anderson, Indiana who originated from Scotland, England. I have gotten so far as to finding my Great Great Grandfather who was born in Ireland in 1840. I would like to find out who his parents are and where they come from and if I still have any family in Scotland. Just curious :)

Hi Tracy,

I am not related to William and Adelaide. Would you like me to transfer them to your care?

RE: Re: Wanita Louise Galbraith
William James Galbraith
Birth 26 Jul 1883 in Grand Forks, North Dakota
Death date is unknown, but I have traced him through the 1930 census. He married Dora Baker on 20 Jan 1907 in Madison County (Anderson), IN. They had Geneva Galbraith in 1908, Lida M Galbraith in 1911, William P Galbraith (1912-1997), Thomas A Galbraith (1914-1984) and James H Galbraith in 1922. Parents of William James Galbraith were: William Galbraith (6 Jan 1840 in Northern Ireland-11 Feb 1925 in Anderson, IN) and Adelaide Mary Stomps (1860-1935). He came from Ireland in Sept 1865 thru New York and went to Grand Forks, ND where he became a naturalized citizen. Naturalization papers shows birth in 1847. I had somebody contact me on and ask if I knew why they went to ND and then on to California and then came back to Anderson. I suspect that it had to do with farming in ND and then the California gold rush and then factory and farming jobs in Indiana. I don't actually know the answer. If you know where any of these people are buried or any more recent info, it would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted directly at

Thanks so much.

RE: Re: Wanita Louise Galbraith
Yes. She is related. Wanita Louise (went by Louise) Galbraith was the daughter of my great aunt Ruth Inez Wilson Galbraith Carmen and David S. Galbraith who ran a bar/restaurant in Anderson, IN. Wanita Louise Galbraith was the mother of David P. Kershner who still lives in Anderson and is about 78 now. She killed herself at the age of 50 by carbon monoxide in the car in the garage. Although some people think it could have been an accident. Her father, David S. Galbraith, was the brother of William Galbraith who was married to Dora Baker. Dave Galbraith also killed himself with a shot gun on Christmas Eve of 1955 with a shotgun in his bar. Although some people think it could have been an accident, he was not in good health at the time. I hope this helps. I have all the info on
