Thank you for the correction information. Based on your information and census records for 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 all listing Tennessee as the birthplace for John Page Free, I made the correction and added some of your information to the bio.

I stumbled upon Find A Grave when I googled my dad's name a few months after he passed. Pushed it to the back of my mind and then got really interested when my daughter had to create a pedigree chart for the biology chapter on genetics. Turns out nobody knows much about my husbands roots, so I started digging - sometimes literally! My kids call it my obsession. I finally located his gr-gr-step-grandmother's gravestone which was, as you mentioned, sunken under the ground! A shovel, a concrete block and help from my daughter took care of that one! From there it took off to helping folks like you locate the final resting places of those who went before. I have "unearthed" several more stones since then and always carry some kind of poking tool with me when I go out to wander around. I'm not giving up hope yet - and have added you to my list of little problems that I peck away at as time permits. If you are in the area, certainly let me know - not too many around understand the fun I have chasing this stuff down! If you do come up with any info at all like who he may be buried with, let me know and I'll see if it narrows it down at all! Stephanie

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I've kind of 'adopted' the cemetery in Coulterville! I have spent HOURS and HOURS and HOURS in the Coulterville Cemetery in the last few years, and I have not been able to find a marker for Mr. Sproul, much to my dismay... I have photographed the entire cemetery and have not yet found a marker for him. Unfortunately, the record books for half the cemetery were lost many years ago, so we can't go there and look, and the funeral records don't go back any further than 1893. AND the list that was transcribed and published by the Randolph Co. Gen. Soc. around 1973 also does not have him listed. There are a LOT of grave sites in the older part of the cemetery that have no markers so it's very possible that one of them is him (the cemetery was established in 1850). If anyone has ANY kind of information that could help pinpoint the location I would be more than happy to go looking again. So sorry. . . Steph

Sure. Will ask mom about it. She's recollected and connected many from Sparta and Hamburg. Once I ask a question she's off and running for hours.

Yes, it was Mathew Sr and James who came here in 1848 followed by Will, Tom, and Matthew Jr. I,be been working with a CG on these finds as well as the Paisley Central Library, Renfrewshire. The actual death date of Margaret in all likelihood was not registered as there was a charge to register this event and not all families could afford it or they simply chose not to. Statutory registrations of biths, marriages, and deaths for Scotland began 1 January 1855.
If you have a death date for Margaret that I have not found I will post it. The photo of the Sproul Bros. is from numerous ones in mom's scrapbook collection. Harriet and Matthew Sproul were her Great Grandparents. She is 96 and remembers them well.
