|DKB61||Nettie Brown Benton|
My paternal grandfather's name is Jeffie Layfette Brown. He was married to Innerree Grizzle. I have a family Bible that lists Nettie Brown Benton as his sister. Their parents are listed as William Brown and Fannie Strickland Brown. Their other siblings are listed as (sisters) Ebbie Brown Johns and Katie Johns, (brothers) Will Brown, Les Brown, Charle Brown, and Owen Brown. That's as far back on the Brown side that the list goes. I have a site on MyHeritage that I've been working on if you would like to visit. I don't recall at the moment your connection to Nettie Brown Benton. I could send an invitation to join the site if you send me an email address.

|Em||Brown and Cauley|
The 1880 census in Seale, AL is the only document I have to "prove" the Brown family. William and Fannie's son Jeffie (my great-great-grandfather) was born in 1888. The only way I was able to connect Jeffie to William and Fannie was by asking family members. I've yet to do any paper research in Russell County, which would probably yield better results. I thought I'd gotten lucky when I located William, Fannie, and Kate Brown's graves in Crawford Cemetery, but as you may have seen there are no dates on the markers. The only thing I could tell you about Nettie/Nellie is that she was living with William and Fannie Brown in 1880.
How are you descended from John and Elizabeth Cauley? I come from their son Bowling Cauley (also known as Boland or Bolton) and his wife Millie Ann Morris. My great-great-grandmother is Bowling and Millie Ann's daughter Della Cauley who married Earl McCart, who had my great-grandfather Earl Junior McCart (June).
Your connection to the Benton family intrigues me as well. There were some Bentons in Pike County, AL - another place I have strong roots - that intermarried with my Freeman line. Folk from Pike County sometimes moved around to neighboring counties and your Bentons could very well have been from Pike Co and moved to Covington Co. I will see if I have your William N Benton somewhere.
Thanks for contacting me! I look forward to your response.
