RE: Cousins
I live in Newport News, Virginia.

I come to Raleigh, often, and to Louisburg, as I have family in both places. I was lucky enough to have a male cousin who was able to provide the DNA sample a few years ago, so that's how I was able to document our line. As a matter of fact, I could have chosen any one of NINE direct male descendant cousins to do it! :)

It seems that there were FEW issues with the Hawkinses having to fight each other over property. I also suspect that my gg-gf's cousin, Philemon B., did some dirty-work of his own, as executor of Nathaniel's estate, but I'll probably never be able to prove it, lol.

Can we continue our conversations over regular email?

I look forward to seeing your pictures! :)

That's wonderful! I can't wait to see what you send. :)

I was aware of most of what you just told me, except for the piece about the Episcopal Church.

Do you live in the Warren/Franklin County, NC area?

Oh, okay. I've seen that, then. I thought you were saying that you had a different bible. :)

I think I've seen all of the public pictures of the Hawkins men, but I don't think I've seen any of the women. Do you have any of them available to send, electronically? If so, I would really love to see them. My email address is I've been trying for years to find someone who might have authentic family photos and/or letters, etc., beyond what is out in public. For them to have been such a prominent family, there seems to be so little, especially in photographs!

My Philemon was born in 1767 and died in 1856. Jacobina was his third wife. My gg-gf, Nathaniel (1830-1879) was their son.

Please email me when you can. Again, I would appreciate anything you are willing to share. It has only been through my research that I discovered my Hawkins connection (many years ago), and it has been verified via DNA. We are part of the Hawkins DNA project, Family Group 7.

RE: Hawkins-Carroll Cemetery Flemingtown Rd
First, let me correct my cellphone typo! My ggg-grandmother was Jacobina, not Jacobia. :)

Okay, Philemon and Lucy were my 4th great-grand uncle and aunt. Philemon's father (the Colonel) was my 5th g-grandfather. So, you and I are definitely (distant) cousins! :)

I would love to be able to touch bases with you to see if you have any information in your bible that would be about my direct ancestors. Do you have any pictures?

Hi. I am away from my computer right now, but I will take another look at this when I get home, and then make the verifiable corrections and/or get back to you, if I have questions.

So, we are cousins! From whom do you descend? I am the gg-granddaughter of Nathaniel, son of Philemon and Jacobina.

Also, I didn't originally put these in Find A Grave. I had them transferred from the original owner.

your find a grave request
I went to Union cemetary on Thanksgiving, not knowing someone else had already been there. I found (and took pics of) the same grave stones as the other writer. I couldn't find your William Bailey's grave site, either. Sometimes, you can get the name and phone number of the curator of these places. If you do that, I'd be more than happy to meet them out there to show me where it is.

Good luck,

William Bailey
Hi Betsy.
I was at the Government "Union" cemetery on Hilton Head yesterday. It is small, probably less than 100 interred here. I went upon your request and looked multiple times for William but unsucessfully.

There's a broken stone which was pieced together but illegible for a Joseph B. and three other Baileys in a row which have funeral home markers-no stones. They are for Alice Bailey Jones 1923-2004, Leroy Bailey 1910-1979 and Florence R. Bailey 1894-1972. Several Wileys are beside them.

I took photos of the Baileys and will
post them if you want to make that request on!

Sorry about not finding William for you.
