RE: Bethel Cemetery Photo Requests
RE: Bethel Cemetery Photo Requests

The first three and the last one are probably buried in the section at Bethel that have old stones in German. Hard to read, may be buried in order of death. That "technique" could help bring out the carving, but of course the limestone or marble ones have eroded tremendously.

They are:
Karl Heinrich (Henry) Kruse d. 1876
pg, 30, The Funeral Records of Bethel Church

Herman Ludwig Christoph "Louis" Brockschmidt b. 1801 d.1883
- Find A Grave Memorial# 126276775

Henriette Wilhelmina "Minnie" Fricke Osterhage Brockschmidt b. 1803 d. 1874
- Find A Grave Memorial# 126276775

Anton Heinrich Sander b. 1800 d. 1849
- Find A Grave Memorial# 57365353
Anton (my direct line of descent) is buried in the old cemetery that I am trying to find. One of the few of the seventy-five or so burials that can be identified there.

Anna Sophie Elizabeth Stoelting Sander b. 1799 d. 1866
- Find A Grave Memorial# 59154587
Also probably among the early German monuments at Bethel, she is also in my direct line of descent.

Not sure who the Kruse gentlemen is, but my Kirchoff ancestor was originally Kruse - see Find A Grave Memorial# 57815053.

Some of the Germans from Westphalia "married the farm" that is they took the name of the farm if they married someone from one of the large estates where they were basically serfs. So tracing a name from that area can be challenging. And of course, having the same surname is not necessarily evidence of relationship.

No photos, but these are the hard ones to find. Would be an interesting and rewarding project to photograph the old stones at Bethel and post them on Find A Grave. A lot of Sander descendants are buried at the Salem Cemetery at Westphalia, IN. Others are buried in the Begeman family cemetery nearby Westphalia.

RE: Bethel Cemetery Photo Requests
Steve, thanks for the reply, curious about what seven relatives you couldn't find. I twill review my photos to see if I might have any of them. I started marching though the cemetery last trip out and stopped due to rain. I had been entering them as I found them, but stopped a while back so let me look.

I created a cemetery: Old Bethel Evangelical Lutheran & Reformed Cemetery. If you go to the cemetery, you will see that its exact location is unknown. But the plaque at Bethel indicates its approximate location. The original markers were wooden and have long since decayed away. I would like to have some help the next trip out to see if it could be located and photographed. I noticed you live not too far away, maybe you would be interested. Thinking about coming out in October, most of the foliage should be gone.

Just a thought.

Harvey

Bethel Cemetery Photo Requests
Hello Steve, don't know if you realize it, but all of the photos you took were of relatives of yours. By the contorted relationships in Widner Township you and I are related to all of these folks and many, many more. Thank you for taking the time to photo all these graves. I entered what I could find of the people noted in the: "Schroeder and Sander Family Histories, 1948, Clara Schroeder Masteller." I had taken a lot of photos previously and ended up entering some I did not have photos of. I found your photo in my 1961 copy of the Lincoln Log, I was a senior and you were a freshman!
The "Schroeder and Sander Family Histories, 1948, Clara Schroeder Masteller" I referenced can be found in the Library at Vincennes University.
I corrected the spelling on your uncle's memorial. I didn't add the other person as they were not referenced in the SS&FH. If you have an obit, I would gladly add it to his memorial or any other of the person you might have that I have entered. Thanks again, Cousin Harvey!
