I was born and raised in western Pennsylvania. I served in the U. S. Army, and retired in Texas. I got to do some geneological research at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. when I was stationed in Maryland. I accumulated a lot of geneology information over the years, and with the help of the Internet, I am finally getting around to fitting all of the pieces together.

RE: Baker
Mark, I was able to access some census records from my library at home and may have found a candidate for "Granny Baker". In 1920 Center Twp there's a family John S. Baker 77 Head, Mary J. Baker 73 wife and John B. Baker 37 son. Couldn't get 1930 census but in the 1940 census There's Mary Jane Baker 94 yrs Head, & John B. Baker 58 yrs son and next to them is a George H? Baker 60 wd. Thinking maybe Mary Jane could be the Granny Baker my dad remembers and her son John. I noticed also in this census that this family lived near Abraham Fath. My dad knew him. If it is, then Granny Baker did at least live into 1940. Our "Granny Baker" like mentioned before had sons John, "Rags" & Charley (Charles) Baker. Charley having married Louise (Lide, Lydia) Jane Stewart, dau. of John Leon Stewart. Found in my records that Charley & Lide Baker had kids named Anna, Helen, Charles Baker Jr & Marylou Baker.

RE: Baker
My dad was born in 1934 and he said Granny Baker was very old then, possibly nearing 100 and she died when he was very little, so back in the late 1930's. She lived a little ways from the old water tanks in Monaca in a big house just down from a Johnson family. My dad's family at that time lived just below her. He thinks she may have owned the house that they were living in. Her son John Baker had a barber shop that he ran in his mom's home. My dad used to go there to get his hair cut. He remembers a big moose head hung on the wall.
Anything sound familiar?

Hey Mark thought of another thing, my dad remembers that as a child his family lived in Monaca by an older lady that he knew as Granny Baker. She had sons named John, Rags and Charles. Charles was married to my dad's aunt Lydia (Louise) Stewart Baker. Are they any relation to you?

RE: Irene Myrtle
Thanks Mark for letting me know about the photo of Aunt Ivy Watkins. How wonderful! No, I don't think there's any automatic notification services for memorial updates. Bummer. That would be such a help. Sometimes I don't find new additions until months later. Hey Mark, awhile back I was given a zerox copy of a photo of a large Barto Stewart etc.. family picnic gathering that was taken around 1936. My dad remembers attending family gatherings at Raccoon Creek when he was little. I think I can pick out my dad and his parents but have no idea of the other folks who's who. I'd think most of our families would be in it. Does this photo sound familiar to you? If you haven't seen it and want to let me know and I could email it to you.
I'm so happy to find other family members that are interested in our history.
Happy week to you,
