|Fran Baumgartel||RE: On Shapleigh P. Echols Sr.|
Sorry for late reply but my computer was in for repair and just got it back.
Shapleigh Echols is my great-great grandfather. His daughter Nancy maarried John J. Evans and they are my grandmother's parents. She was Sarah Frances Evans and she married my grandfather, Thomas O. Black in 1891. My dad was their seventh and youngest child, born in 1905. Sallie, as my grandfather called her, died in 1907 when my dad was only 18 mos old. It was a toxic pregnancy. She was only in her early 30s. She married at 17 but Tom was 33. My grandfather was 47 went my dad was born and my dad was 47 when I was born. Sadly, my dad passed when I was only 3 so I have little memory of him. However, we moved to Texarkana after his death and lived there until I was 9. Then we moved to Pittsburgh, PA where my mom's family lived. I have some info on the Echols but not a lot. Most I've gotten from internet but some from family. I am 59 yrs. old and I live in northeastern PA.
|Cindy Brisco Wheeler||Lula Echols and Cora "Lula" Echols|
We are both correct. They are two individuals. I am assuming you have visited the Cora "Lula" (Echols) Morrell Memorial; link below.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=morrell&GSmid=47006565&GRid=75272267& S.P. and Sarah (Summerville) Echols had about eleven children. Two of the brothers, James W. Echols and Robert H. Echols, each had a daughter that went by the name "Lula". Cora "Lula" (Echols) Morrell is in the James W. Echols lineage. Apparently, Lula was a popular name in that era. These ladies are cousins.
I will switch over to e-mail now, for lengthy information.
