|Jeffry Burden||RE: Lt. Colo. John Wretts Hannay|
Bindy Jo, Thanks for writing. Besides what can be found by doing a Google search, I also searched a few old Loyal Legion publications which I own. Those state that he served as a 1st Lt. in the 198th Pennsylvania Infantry from Oct. 29, 1864 to Feb. 15, 1865; as a 1st Lt. in the 8th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery from March 10, 1865 to Feb. 10, 1866; and in the 3rd U.S. Infantry beginning Sept. 28, 1866, where he eventually reached the rank of major and served in the Phillipines in 1899 and 1900. He later retired from the 12th U.S. Infantry with the rank of Lt. Col. As I noted, he was Companion #00524 in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the U.S. (MOLLUS). You should request to have his memorial transferred to you!

You are welcome. It was no trouble at all.
