RE: Georgia Ann Shell Champion
Margaret, many of the gravestones in the Jacksonville Cemetery are missing or in pieces. I don't know why; possibly vandalism. Before my great aunt Mary died, she replaced the stone for her mother, Dollie, but none of the others. Dollie is buried near her first husband, Kelton West Champion, and their youngest son, John Allen Champion, but their gravestones are gone. I've never been to Alabama personally, but my mother has been to the cemetery. Kelton and Dollie were her grandparents.

Georgia Ann Shell Champion had 8 children. She and her youngest child died in childbirth. Her children were William Jacob "Jake" Champion (1875-1914), Newton Thomas Champion (1877-1930), John Robert Champion (1879-1903), Dora Crook Champion (c.1884-1898), Sarah Earl "Sadie" Champion (1885-1942), Kelton West Champion (1888-1919), Flournoy Whisenant "Chick" Champion (1892-1962) and Nancy Champion (1895-1895).

After Georgia died, Old Man George remarried to Edna Ray and had 8 more children: Judie Virginia Champion (1899-1986), Frederick Jones Champion (1901-1979), James Franklin Champion (1904-1959), Arthur Brisbane Champion (1906-?), Effie Mae Champion (1909-?), George Calvin Champion (1912-2001), Margaret Edna Champion (1914-1994) and Ralph Bingham Champion (1916-1996).

At least 4 of George's children were buried in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Several are in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Sadie is at Mount Zion. Chick is at Oak Bowery Baptist Church. I don't yet know where the rest are. I'm still researching. I hope this information helps you. Good luck!

RE: The Wife of Micajah Singleton
Hi Margaret,

I'm assuming that she does, since she is listed in the 1963 cemetery survey of Forrest Cemetery.

You can find that information at the Gadsden Public Library in Gadsden, AL.

There are some photo vol.'s who are currently taking photos of headstones at Forrest Cemetery.

Until Later....God Bless,
Judith
