I'm sure they were not stolen. We just missed them. This cemetery is not mowed until the grass is pretty high. I know it's due to the lack of good donations. I'm sorry we missed them will strive to do better. I'll drive out an check their board to see if they have him listed and what his location is if you have not already aquired that information from your Thanksgiving visit.

RE: Douglass Cemetery - James Howard
Hi Jerry, I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you. I don't check my aol mail regularly during the school year. Yes, I am Gip's middle daughter. Laney and Kelly are my sisters. We go to Jenny Lind nearly every year in May on Mother's Day weekend, and clean the headstones and place flowers. We weren't able to go this year in May, but we did go August. We didn't get out and walk through because the cemetery was pretty overgrown.

Our family graves are all marked. James Howard (my grandfather), Hugh and Margaret Howard (his parents), Joseph and Mary Howard (twins who died just after birth) are all buried close together. Also, Alameda Colclasure (James's mother in law) is buried there.
The cemetery is easy to find. From Ft. Smith, take Hwy 71 south, probably about 10 miles. There are two roads you can take that go right to the cemetery. One is Hunktown Rd, and the other is Bonanza Rd. When you enter the gates of the cemetery, Grandma Colclasure's grave is pretty much straight ahead by the back fence. The Howard graves are about 1/3 of the way in and then down the hill to the right. They are near some very large, newer headstones, and a decorative cinder block border.

I have pictures of the headstones if you would like to have them. Send me an e mail address, and I will send them to you.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Don and I walked our cemeteries over line by line row by row doing our photo's. We even revisit graves if the photo's did not meet our standards. If there was a stone we would have seen it unless it is buried under gopher mounds. We have even dug up some of them after we probed them and felt there was a stone there. When we work a cemetery we reall look hard for covered graves and tops to ones that have been broken. I'm so sorry but you should make contact with this lady.
I wish you luck and hope your not driving far...

I went through all my pictures. There is not a stone photo for James, Hugh or Margaret Howard.

Do you know the person who added the not under the flowers section for James see memorial #83105551.

Hi Jerry,
I retook all the stones in this cemetery and have been working with Find A Grave to correct errors for the last two years.
When you get to the cemetery at the front gate is a really nice grave location map. It's encased in a huge white sign type thing with two door. Open it there is a list of names and they all have numbers look for the number on the map and you will find the grave location.
The front gate is easy to find. Locate it and the a names on each corner. From there you will get the idea and be able to find anyone listed with a stone.
It's not a very big cemetery so this will be very easy for you.
Wishing you the best!
