Bio and Links
I have been actively searching my family ancestry for the past six years and enjoy working with genealogies. I am also a DAR member with over ten patriots in my line. I served as a past registrar for the DAR and have helped others locate ancestry both within and outside DAR membership.

My maternal links are: Godbey, Parke, Smith, Sibley, McQuary, Buster, Kelly, Storrs, Rutledge, Byrd (all Scots-Irish and English early settlers to colonial America)

My paternal links are: Andersen, Blidegn (all Danish)

I am interested in connecting with anyone here connected to those families or interested in sharing information.

RE: Joseph K Park
I just recently found out that you can view old La Plata Home Press newspapers (and possibly others papers as well) on-line. Another contributor found them and if you cannot locate the site let me know and I will try to send the web address to you. Maybe you can check out Joseph K. Park's obituary to see how the names were spelled in the original version. Hope this helps.

RE: Joseph Harvey Bonham...
Diane, those were fantastic pictures you put on the memorials of Joe and his wife Jo. I just happened to be working on a Thurman relative's memorial who was Joe's mother's sister, and then I clicked on Joe's mother, Mary (Thurman) Bonham and and saw that Joe was linked to her; I had not known where he was buried before this. That's how I saw your photos. I love them! So, I decided to post the photo I had of Joe and his 2 children. It was a photo my great grandmother left in her possessions. I also have a letter that Joe wrote to her, as she was his aunt. I saw where son Robert died in Florida, but I was unable to find a Memorial for him on findagrave.com. I can't imagine people objecting to posting photos of a person on a memorial. I think it is so valuable to have these. We never know who else may be related and who may have other photos that we never suspected.

Joseph Harvey Bonham and family
Could you tell me how you got those photos and whether you are from the Bonham or Park family? Joseph is my distant 2nd cousin, 3x removed on the Bonham side. Thanks. Dick

RE: Hi
Hi Diane,
Yes, your name is familiar. I haven't been photographing lately, please feel free to do so. I think there are quite a few in the area doing this.

RE: Joseph K Park
I know you don't blame me but I do sometimes make typing errors when typing up obits so it was alright with me that you checked to see if perhaps I spelled her name wrong. Did you know that you can get the La Plata Home Press on inter-library loan at your local library? My husband's aunt in Kansas did this with the old La Plata newspapers and then she would send me copies of obits that she thought I might be interested in. I think there is a small fee but it isn't nearly as high as the price of gasoline would cost to make a trip to La Plata. Just something I thought I would pass along in case you might want to give it a try. Have a nice day, Farm Girl from MO.

RE: Joseph K Park
The spelling of names in his obituary are as they were typed up by a lady who copied them out of the paper and then typed them up from her handwritten notes and are not the actual newspaper clippings. There are microfilms available, I believe at the public library in La Plata, if their viewer is working or at the State Historical Society in Columbia. I know that obits contain spelling/typing errors, especially in the older ones. I do the best I can with what info. I have before me. Have a nice day, Farm Girl from MO.

RE: Double Memorial Page
Unfortunately, it does happen more often than we would all like. Sometimes it is a matter of one memorial only being initials of the given name or a different spelling of one of the names, a nickname instead of a given name, different dates, etc. I'm sorry you didn't get the photo added to your memorial. Sometimes if the creator of the memorial is not the person who added the photo, when it is deleted, the photo goes too. If the creator also took they photo, they will usually add the photo to the other memorial so that it is not lost. I hope you will be able to get the marker photo again.

Sarah

RE: Double Memorial Page
Hi Diane,

Well, by the time I read your message, the other memorial had been removed. So I guess you contacted the other contributor and they agreed to delete their memorial. Please add Maggie's memorial as well - I couldn't find it. Be sure to link Maggie and Walter's memorials as well.

As for William Clinton Godbey, I have had his dob and dod for some time now, but have not found where he was interred. I would have thought he and Carrie would have been buried together, but apparently not. I will keep searching as well. Should I find anything, I will let you know. The Smith family is one of my paternal family lines. That is where W C Godbey and his descendants work into my family tree. Since Walter Angus Godbey is your Great Grandfather, I believe that would make you and I 4th cousins.

RE: Request Edits
I'd much prefer for you to share the updates with me and I'll make them. Since I maintain the cemetery records on-line for the entire county, I don't like to lose the ability to make updates to both the on-line records and the memorials on Find-A-Grave.

Please send the updates directly to me in an email, and I'll put them at the top of the list.

Larry
