Hi Gerri:

Thanx for getting back to me. Mary Bowers is closer to your cemeteries than I am, however I do drive around some. Keep looking and if you get any ideas on cemeteries, let one of us know. I'm sure that given time, we'll find all of them.

Jerry

Duncan/Willburn Graves
Hi, Geraldine;

I DID drive up to Trinity Center to check out your requests. I walked every row and none of your folks showed up. (Wish I had read your page before going!) Before I went I also did the research and knew that they were probably not there. I concur with everything that Jerry said to you in his last note. The only item I can add that he did not discuss is that John, Polly, and Nancy apparently did not die in Trinity County, but Lillian did. That's not to say they did not die here - just no records.

In the late 1950s the old cemetery in Old Trinity Center was moved to its present location. There are several graves now marked "Unknown". It is certainly possible some of these graves belong to your folks, but I really don't think that is the case. Duncan/Willburn are names from the south county. Good luck in your continuing search.

Duncan / Willburn
Hi one last time Geraldine.

I don't know how well acquainted you are with Trinity County, but your Duncans and Willburns and their fathers and mothers and siblings were all located in Long Ridge, Hettenshaw and Mad River in the Southwestern corner of Trinity County during the times of the 1880 to 1920 US Censuses. These places are all a 150 mile drive from Trinity Center. There are several cemeteries in that area, some of which are listed on Find A Grave. Kettenpom, Hoaglin, Hettenshaw Valley and the Fannie Willburn Historical Site Cemetery are the ones I find listed. I'm sure there are more and as you suggest, many burials were not in recognized cemeteries. You have apparently searched the obits in the "Trinity Journal." Have you looked in the Humboldt, Mendocino and Lake County newspapers? You mentioned a burial in Covelo. All the places your relatives lived are much more connected to towns and publications in those other counties. I noticed a posting
by "Gerry Willburn@gwillburn@ca.rr.com" You might try contacting this person. Also there was a correction posted by "Irwin 135" for your g-g-grandfather James St. Clair Willburn in the Ancestry.com census files. Perhaps that person has additional info.

I won't be driving up to Trinity Center to look for the graves and I'm not ready for a 220 mile round trip search to Southern Trinity.

Good luck, ....... Jerry

Duncan, etc.
Hi Geraldine:

I talked with the Trinity County Cemetery record keeper this morning and she has nothing on these Duncans or Willburns, but we will search further. Could you tell me where the Duncan Ranch was and where Long Ridge was? Is it near Mad River? Have you asked the Trinity County Historical Society / Jake Jackson Museum staff for any info? jerry

Duncans and Willburn
Hi Geraldine:

I will gladley go up to Trinity Center and try to get you some photos, but would like a little more information, like perhaps some obit info. The county has no record of these four names in any cemetery. Can you tell me where they were living at the time of their deaths?

thanx ....... jerry

Unmarked next to Andrew Posey
After seeing your question, I have added a link to my "Unmarked" that will take you to that of Andrew J. Posey. I hope this helps. Dottie
