I was born and raised in Texas. My family for about the past 200 years or so has made their home in Southern Illinois ( Union and surrounding counties). I am interested in family surnames -- McCulley (and other variations of spelling),Lewis, Oxford,Little, Wise,Yancey, Smith, Treece ( and other spelling variations), Ward, Eaves, Turner, Goot, Yates, and related folks. My current stomping ground is Central Texas. I am willing to take photo request as time permits. :) You may use my pictures for your personal use.
Memories of conversations Hi again. Minnie Prewitt Leggans, daughter to William and Charlotte McCulley (my grandma) has another sibling that is not mentioned, her baby brother George. He served in WW II in the Navy and died in the Battle of Okinawa on the USS Halligan. He was unmarried at death. My grandma told me that her family came from Kentucky. Her sister's name was Geraldine nicknamed Penny and her last name was Saliba at the time of her death.
As for your confusion about Alexander's burial at Popular Ridge Cemetery, it's right up the road from Alto Pass, Union County. It doesn't seem as big a stretch for me since it's just a few miles down the road. Glad I could help!
McCulley family HI, my grandmother's name was Minnie Elizabeth Prewitt Leggans. Her mother was Charlotte McCulley, daughter of Alexander McCulley. I appreciate what you have gathered so far about my grandma's family. I have a few stories that my grandma told me. Where are you in the family tree? Let me know how I can help in your quest...Debbie
Thought I'd say "Hello" to a distant relative. My 3rd great grandfather was Isaac Beggs and my 2nd was Alfred Lewis Beggs. Alfred's son, my great grandfather Alfred Alexander Beggs/Biggs, began his life as a Beggs but at some point while living in Arkansas he changed his surname to Biggs. Interesting how families evolve. I enjoyed visiting your site on the internet. There was a lot of valuable information on the Beggs, Oxfords and Penrods there.
