|My interest in geneology is rather recent; my wonderful husband gave me a subscription to Ancestory.com as a mothers day gift just this May. I joined findagrave after a link from ancestory led me here to a picture of the headstone of my 5xGreat-grandfather. |
I signed up and became a photo volunteer, even though I'm still trying to learn how the find-a-grave community and features work. Ever since i can remember I've had a reverent interested in old cemeteries. I enjoy taking my children on "adventures" to escape, to explore, to chart and to imagine. Even before joining this site, I've been known to stop when I see an old cemetery just to tiptoe through it and imagine about the lives marked there.
I am so excited about the idea of being able to go out on adventures to locate old forgotten cemeteries and photograph them for people who want to cherish the memories of those interred there. It's something I would enjoy doing anyway, but the reward of actually being able to talk to the relatives of the people buried and getting to hear little anecdotes about their lives- how rewarding!! I can't want to get started!
I look forward to becoming involved in this community and being as helpful as I can. I hope to make new friends here and ask for any tips or request you might have as I feel out this new hobby.
(I'm also a 32 year old mother of four, and a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University where I study molecular biology.)

Thank you for the photos. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
After I made the entries in Find A Grave and requested the photos in 2010, someone else entered the same names again in 2011 and included photos. It is a big mess and I am trying to get the duplicates eliminated.

Emily - wow thanks for making that journey. I think my sister did it in a 4 wheel truck. Also thanks for checking the GPS. Tell me again are your new coordinates based on where you were ont the road "before" you left your car to head up the hill... or at the cemetery once you got up the mountain to the cemetery? Also I do have the Aug 2011 Map of the Cemetery. I will email to you if you provide your email address to me. Also I will load it under William A Elliott Sr's memorial as a photo. I have the most recent information that I have added onto the Cemetery Map my sister did in Aug 2011. My sister, Michaela, says that you really need to take a copy of the permission slip with you from us from the Game Commission. We have it approved through end of Aug of this year.. for us to be on their property to visit the cemetery. My main need is to get some etchings (with foil) of what is on some of the stones that we are still not certain about. Thanks for helping us!! Give me you email address.
