Mary Ann/Mollie
Not sure if you knew this already, but Mollie was a nickname they gave all of the Mary Ann's, including Mary Ann Caves Monroe

Hi Bill - can you post that picture that my mom gave you, of Mary Ann Caves Monroe, posing with the gentleman in the Civil War Uniform (her brother I'm told). Thanks.

RE: Samuel Monroe
Hey Bill, my mom (as you can imagine) was the same way, saying the wrong word. She told me that my grandfather had "help" on the farm (or their land, not sure if it was a farm) and they treated them very nicely, considering them family. She said that my grandfather protected one with a gun, threatening the other person to leave now or suffer the consequences. All of the brothers, or most of the brothers, were part-time deputy sheriffs, but the pay was so lousy they had to have other employment. When I read about an ancestor of ours owning slaves, it made me sick; I could only hope that our ancestors were decent people.

Wasn't Uncle Sam's wife named Lida? I remember meeting them once, having lunch at their house.
