George and Sarah McClanahan

Hi Peggy,

I recently saw some postings on from a few years ago regarding the McClanahans in Washington County Maryland, and am wondering if those posts came from you. I am descended from the one child of George and Sarah (Elizabeth) who seems to have survived. Elizabeth, who at 13 was living separately from her parents with the Newswanger family in 1850, married John Royer in 1859, and they are my great great grandparents. I'm wondering if you ever found out anything about George's parents. Any information you can share would be appreciated.

RE: Memorial# 91971927 for Dorothy
Unfortunately we did not know anyone from Dottie's family and she never mentioned anyone. I got the impression there was some sort of disconnect with them. The only people who were at her funeral was me, my husband and their landlord. She told me that she had been a nurse for many years. They lived in Pennsylvania for a while so they may show up on the Penn. census. I hope that helps. I'm sorry but we just didn't know much about her.

No, they had no children. Steven (no one called him Melvin. He said when he worked for the railroad his last name got mistaken for a first name and it stuck. When we first met them, he introduced himself as Steven) did, however, have family that he wrote to regularly, especially a niece. Dottie died from throat cancer. Our kids sort of adopted Steven after she died and he spent holidays and had diners with us. Steven died at home from a heart attack. He was a wonderful and gentle person. We still miss him. How do you know of them?

Hi Peggy- We lived across the street from the Stevens for may years before they passed. Dottie passed first and though Melvin had not put her dod on her stone he said it was 13th, but if you have info otherwise I will gladly change it. I have posted a picture on their memorials. Thanks, Liz

Stansbury Memorials
Hi Peggy,

I was cleaning out my inbox and realized I never finished transferring the Stansbury memorials from Druid Ridge Cem. I wish you would have said something to kick me into gear! I transferred them all tonight! Enjoy!

RE: Violet Blanche Bestwick McKim
no, I do not know anything for sure. She was the last of 10 children and all of the others were either born in Sabetha, KS or in NE.
Thank you for your help.

Michael and Margaret Smith
#51049656 Margaret and Michael appear to be possibly inlaws.
Markers are 30 feet and 5 rows apart.

I have no way of knowing without going there, and it is 40 minutes away. I only get there about once per year.
