I am in Rockingham County NC. As for the Native American connection, my father stated that his mother (Sally French) was of Native American descent. No idea on the tribe. She was from up around the Dan River, north of Hwy 700. That may point to what's known as Lower Sauratown. The tribe who lived in that area was called Saura or Cheraw and they are long extinct. But no proof of anything - sadly the info and traditions were not passed down to us. Go to Wikipedia and do a search on Saura or Cheraw, there should be some info there. There's also a Guilford Native American Assoc. in Greensboro, you can probably find a website for them. Then there's the Oconeechi-Saponi tribe (recognized by the state of NC) located around Mebane, NC. They have a PowWow every year in June.
I have no info on the wife of David Williams. No idea on his origin either - but his name suggests Wales as point of origin for his roots.
The only federally recognized tribe in NC (with funding) are the Cherokee. The Lumbee are also federally recognized - but without funding. The state of NC however recognizes many tribes - or remnants thereof.
Hope this helps. Once again, Google and/or Wikipedia are good resources to learn more about the tribes of NC and VA.

Your welcome. I've dug around a little bit, but I've not been able to find an obit. I'm not confident on the info I found on Spouse. If you have any info on spouse, obit or a picture you're free to email me. Since this is family I'm also willing to transfer management if you wish.
