County’s Oldest Physician Dies

REESE – This community was saddened by the death of the county’s oldest general practitioner, Dr. Otto von Renner, who died Thursday at Veteran’s Hospital in Saginaw at the age of 98.

Dr. von Renner continued to practice medicine until five years ago, retiring on his 93rd year. He is believed to have been one of Michigan’s oldest practicing physicians at the time of his retirement in 1966.

Dr. von Renner was born March 28, 1873 in Kendallsville, Ind. And practiced in Vassar until the last five years when he moved to Reese where he lived with his daughter and family, Mrs. Alvin (Lois) Reif. He moved to the county in 1924.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reese, Dr. von Renner was a member of the Michigan and the American Medical Societies, a veteran of the Spanish-American War and WWI.

He married the late Lydia Scheuermann at Buffalo, N.Y. in 1905. She died in 1935. Dr. von Renner is survived by his daughter; 3 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clara Zwerk of Saginaw and a brother, the Rev. Herman von Renner of Neuman, Calif.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Trinity Lutheran. The Rev. Ralph Fischer officiated with burial following in the church cemetery, Reese.

I have posted a picture to fill your request. The cemetery records show that Jacob Gaul is buried next to Mary Gaul even though his name is not engraved on the headstone....Mary
