I have been doing genealogy for over twenty years and have a wealth of cemetery photos. I have loved walking through cemeteries and reading the tombstones, especially the very old ones. I thought it was time I shared my photos with others, and I hope that it helps someone find their ancestor! By adding tombstone photos and bios on Findagrave, I have found a great way to share over twenty years of research on my Maryland Simpson family. |
After joining Findagrave, I have been challenged to get the very oldest tombstones in a cemetery photographed, while they are still readable, and add them. Two of my endeavors have included Greenmount Cemetery and Baltimore Cemetery, both in Baltimore City. It has been very rewarding to find those born in the 1700's, who helped shape the City of Baltimore, place them on FAG, and then to hear from one of their descendants who had been looking for them for years! Other projects have been Zion Episcopal in Charlestown, WV, and Aspenvale in Seven Mile Ford, Smyth Co., VA. Whenever we travel, we look for cemeteries and photo requests and try to fill them. My husband brushes the stone and I take the photo. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get exercise, and learn the history of this great nation. The stories are often told on the tombstones....including the incredible faith in God and our Redeemer Jesus.
I am glad to make any corrections and/or additions, and also will transfer memorials of those that are no relation to me. If I have added any memorials of your family member and you do not wish it to be posted on this site, I will be glad to take it down. Also, please ask permission to use any family or tombstone photos, and after getting the permission, please give me credit for the photo. Thank you.
I do not want memorials which I have created to have 4-5 tombstone photos. If your photo is better, I'll take mine down; my heart is to create memorials that share photos of the person or their family, in addition to 1-2 tombstone photos. Also, I prefer to add obituary information in the bio section, if you know the name of the newspaper and the date. Please do not post an obituary which takes up room where a photo of the person could go.

Thanks for letting me know. I've removed it and added it to the correct plot in the cemetery.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this picture. Much appreciated!
Thanks for the photo, Linda! I know how much work it can be.

You are very welcome for the obit. I am not interested in the transfer. I have just been going plot by plot at the cemetery and adding pics or creating memorials for those that don't have one.

Thanks for your work on this, I had moved away from the area before I became a graver. I was the priest in Harpers Ferry, Anna's original congregation. She was a heroine and role model to me. I used to stop by and visit whenever I was at Zion church.
You might want to add the source of your information in the Notes section. I try to document any specific research there. If you find obituaries, I would be glad to add them. I think I did a little tree on Ancestry when I put the family together an Find A Grave but later took the tree down. I don't remember having obits.

Linda, Many thanks for placing the photo of gravesites of COL Josias Green and Mary Battee Green (134495290) on Find A Grave. I've been looking for them for years, and just stumbled upon your entry.
