RE: Beal Willis
I had hunted for Beal several times and couldn't find him, but yesterday he just appeared in a bunch of Willis' that I had photographed before. Apparently the aging process affects the eye-brain connections too.

Glad to have finally done this for you.

Lloyd

I had a math teacher in the 9th grade (Carlsbad) named Mr Willis, but have no idea of his first name and if he might be in this group.

RE: Second Note
I just got finished sending a email to you regarding some of this. I mentioned he is in my ancestry.com tree and I would be more than happy to send you a invitation to that tree should that interest you. In my tree, I go back 4 generations beyond Fred Keith Mahaffey and there are other trees that you would be able to peruse the Mahaffey line as well. It would be a great privilege for me to transfer ANY of your Mahaffey line that I put on findagrave to you if you were to want them. It was just in the past couple of months that I requested and had transferred to me the site for Fred Mahaffey's wife, in order to link them together and to add her obituary to the site. A very interesting woman in her own right, she coauthored a book which I am trying to locate at this time. If you would like the family tree invitation and/or the findagrave transfers, just let me know. And of course, if you are getting bored to tears with my verbage, let me know that as well. I am not nearly so effusive about things but there are one or two subjects that do that to me and this just so happens to be one.

Second Note
After replying to your message on findagrave, I looked at your home page to see if you had Mahaffeys on your page. My reason for doing so was because I had a uncle by marriage whose mothers maiden name was Mahaffey (Texas) and I had followed up her line as best I could several years ago. Soon after that, I began researching my brothers military unit in Vietnam. Then LTC Fred Keith Mahaffey was his Commanding Officer. My brother walked point for Battalion Recon for the 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam and that Recon unit was GEN Mahaffey's baby. In his own words he envisioned that platoon to be "a super infantry unit" and he along with the Recon Platoon Sergeant, CSM (Retired) Mark Brockway handpicked each and every member of that unit. I am sure you noticed that I wrote the bio for GEN Mahaffey on findagrave but I wasn't able to put in everything because of findagrave restrictions on bios for famous people. The man was a Army legend and the youngest 4 Star General in the modern history of the US Army, earmarked to become a future Chief of Staff of the Army before his death. My brothers recon unit has a reunion every other year and the latest one ended just this past week. Although I have never attended one, my sister has attended every one since my brother passed. This past week during the reunion, she called me on the phone so that I could listen to 3 hours worth of the speeches and stories. Fred Mahaffey is revered by each and every one of those men to this day. He was just such a rising star right up until the time of his death. He was succeeded in Command on 3 separate occassions by Colin Powell. In just the research I did on him, I could go on for hours about his accomplishments and leadership. What a man. I just wanted to let you know that this was one very special guy.

RE: Mary Lucy Mahaffey
Thank you for pointing that out. It so happens that I was talking about the Mahaffeys a couple of days ago. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know about the link and you can be assured I will look at that site today.

Halls Ferry Cemetery
I apologise - I sent the message to you, who requested the information, and not to the person who copied, verbatim, the info from my Halls Ferry Web site.
I will touch base with Sarah N. Meyers about this, as she is the one who sent you the information. I happen to (in addition to the obituary) have a copy of Nelson's death certificate if you would like one. Contact me through the Halls Ferry web site at:

I noticed that you have copied all the obits I had personally researched and placed on my Halls Ferry Cemetery site. It would have been considerate of you to make a note of where you found your information. Especially, as I see that you responded to a descendant of Nelson Croshaw, with additional information you "found" - the DC and census info - lifted directly off the Halls Ferry Cemetery site.
I haven't checked, but I truly hope that you have not done this with my other cemetery sites. If you want to honestly contribute to the documenting of cemetery sites, the etiquette would be for you to name your SOURCE!

Beal Willis
Angela, I could not find a headstone for Beal but in the area where he is supposed to be, I found lots of Willis:
Walter and Peronelia, Nita, Winnie J and JW,
Christine and James Michael.

I took photos of these headstones, would you like for me to enter them on their memorials?

RE: Mary Lucy Mahaffey
Ms Holland, I have made those transfers. I looked closely at this as I was researching some Mahaffeys I am related to by marriage in Texas but I never did find a connection. My brother had served under Fred Keith Mahaffey.

I noticed that you had recently left a rememberance for your great grandmother on findagrave. If you would like she and your great grandfather transferred to you, I would be honored to do so.
