RE: Edna Cummings Simpson
Jessie,
First I would love to share info with you. Who is your father? My father was Fearmon Simpson, son of Albert Simpson, son of William Washington Simpson.
I made an assumption to where Edna is buried, since her infant son and husband with his second wife are buried in Bayou Meto. Many of my family members are buried in Bayou Meto without headstones. Edna's parents are buried at the Billings cemetery but they also do not have a good record of whom is buried there. From my understanding there was a flood back in the late 20's that took out a lot of the headstones and they were never replaced. I have a list of the grave markers that were surveyed in the late 60's early 70's. I spoke with the church secretary many years ago about a sexton's record of who is buried in the cemetery and she told us that the records had been lost years ago. The present day sexton (we were in Bayou Meto about 1995) did not have old records but had what records that had been updated with new burials. I did not speak with the sexton, just the church secretary.
