I am a Vietnam Veteran and member of The Chadbourn, NC, American Legion Post #139. With the support of Post #139, I have taken upon the project to locate, document, map and photograph graves of Military Veterans in Columbus County, NC. I began the project in July 2013 and as of the end of the year, I had located over 4000 graves in about half the cemeteries in the county. We are also encouraging Veterans Organizations, civic clubs, churches and individuals to "adopt" cemeteries and honor veterans with flags on Memorial Day.|
As time permits, I am putting all my research on this website.

Thank you very much for adding Priscilla's grave photo to FindAGrave.
She lived to be 100 yrs. old so she deserves to be there.

Thanks for letting me know I put Homer in the wrong Long Cemetery. I have moved his memorial per your suggestion.

Joe---I appreciate your photo of the Garrell markers. I am going to be in the area next week; can you give me directions on how to find the Jolly Cemetery? Thank you again.
|Debbie Absher||Will John Griffin - Porter Swamp Cemetery|
I was reading your bio and I see that you are documenting our Veterans. Will John Griffin is buried in the Porter Swamp Church Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, Columbus County, NC. There is no stone to mark his grave, so he is an unknown in the cemetery. Will John Griffin was in World War One, stationed at Fort Jackson, SC.
I talked to the Pastor at Porter Swamp Baptist, he said that no documentation was made of the plots, but he would have been buried in the older section of the cemetery. Will John was born March 17, 1896 and died October 6, 1943. I was wondering if a military stone/marker could be put in place for him?

Thank you for the photo of Mr. Troy's stone. He was a passenger on the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11/01.
