I am a Vietnam Veteran and member of The Chadbourn, NC, American Legion Post #139. With the support of Post #139, I have taken upon the project to locate, document, map and photograph graves of Military Veterans in Columbus County, NC. I began the project in July 2013 and as of the end of the year, I had located over 4000 graves in about half the cemeteries in the county. We are also encouraging Veterans Organizations, civic clubs, churches and individuals to "adopt" cemeteries and honor veterans with flags on Memorial Day.|
As time permits, I am putting all my research on this website.
UPDATE: My work with Columbus County Cemeteries is gradually coming to an end. I have moved to another state and no longer have easy access to the cemeteries. I have more than 4,000 photos that I have not processed, so as time permits I will be adding some of these to the website.
Please continue to honor Veterans of Columbus County, NC.

I have requested several edits. If you are no longer working with this particular cemetery, can you transfer it to me please. I grew up near this cemetery and my husband has many relatives there. Thank you
|Elizabeth Reed||Thank you|
Thank you for Shelby, Joe. If I run across anymore, I'll let you know.
|Elizabeth Reed||RE: Shelby Jean Davis|
Joe, I and Columbus county hate to lose you as you've been a real asset and I wish you much luck in your future endeavors. Yes, please feel free to transfer any of your Columbus county memorials to my care. I was born there and both sides of my paternal family have been there for generations so I have many ties and kin in the Columbus and Robeson county area. Morgan, Small, Bass, Hammond(s) are just a few of my direct line. In addition, I would also love to have Shelby's memorial and I'll try to do some more digging to see if that might be her. I'm wondering if that word after the name Shelby that you said might be 'infant', if that could be 'Jean'. Long shot, I know, but was just wondering. I may try to drive out there soon and take a look for myself. I live in Pender County now. Anyway...thank you so much for all of your hard work and especially for all of your edits that helped me to complete memorials.
Thanks for the transfer of William A Edwards it is a big help in our research. Tom Edwards

This is my grandfather, I would like to manage this memorial. Thank you, Tom Edwards
|Tony||Alva Thomas Bullard|
There are two Alva Bullard's living in Columbus County and Robeson County during this time period. One was born in 1837 and the other in 1840. There are many similarities in these two people but they are not the same. The 1850 and 1860 census shows them as separate individuals.
The Alva T you show being the postmaster is not the same one you have listed. The postmaster Alva is my gg-grandfather. His son Enoch M Bullard is also listed as the follow on postmaster in Finlea. The postmaster Alva is buried in Mills Creek Cemetary, Horry County.
Your Alva T does not have a son, Enoch.
I would love to see what other information you may have on Alva. There is a lot of erroneous or mixed up information on these two Alva's. I hope to visit the Robeson County Courthouse soon to try to get more definitive answers on these two men.
Thanks for volunteering to do all this important work.
