Paul and Chasidy,
My mother's maiden name is Bevis. Her great-grandfather, John W. Bevis, married Eliza Donelson in 1844 in Florence, AL. John W. was born in 1823 or so in Laurens County,SC. They left to Arkansas before 1850, had a few kids there, and by 1850 they are in Paducah, KY. Here is my problem....There are no records of who John W.'s father was, but throught the years, I think I have eliminated all the Thomas L. Bevis families. For some time I focused on Oswell Bevis as an ancestor. I saw Carol Cotton's message about estate papers that listed Oswell's kids. Since my John is a Bevis, only Oswell's boys could have been the ancestor. The 1850 census in Lauderdale lists Richard and Nancy Bevis, and their son James is there. I have some ideas about Richard and Nancy....Are you related?

Thank you for taking the time to help us gather more info about our loved ones.

Thanks for the additions to the Balentine Cemetery. Yes-Robbie Petty Bevis was Dalton's wife despite the headstone saying W.D. instead of D.W. Also, her year of birth on her death certificate was 1917. Headstones aren't always correct. My Bevis is Rebecca Bevis McKelvey. She's the daughter of Oswell & Jane Bevis. We found estate inventory records for Oswell in the Lauderdale Court House. My great grandfater was named Jesse Bevis McKelvey. He's buried at Canaan. Too many Bevis's. It's hard to keep them straight!!

Do you know where your great grandparents are buried?

Delighted to do this. Thanks for the photo and other photos you have contributed here at Find A Grave. My g-g-grandmother was a Bevis (she's buried at Murphy's Chapel) which has led us to exploring the Bevis line.
