I have been interested in headstone inscriptions since I was young. As my grandchildren became interested, we would walk the local cemeteries together and imagine the life each person may have had. Now that I am searching for my own heritage and that of my husbands, I find that even just a little bit of information helps to piece the puzzles together. I will be forever grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way in my search; and my way of paying forward is to volunteer for Findagrave so that I may help others achieve their genealogical goals. Have fun out there!

Hi,

Just read the reply that the Linwood Cemetery office sent to you. I know there was a Find A Graver who was chalking headstones (including several of my brother's ancestors). When I took photos of headstones, I just photographed the stone and didn't touch anything.

Yours Truly,
LeRoy A.

Okay check out the new improved photo. It is raining today so I took a photo while it was wet. It brings out the lettering much more. If I had know that, I would have simply sprayed some water on the headstone the first time! I'll have to remember that...

Let me know when you've viewed the photo, and I will delete the other one.

Regards,
B.J.

Hi,

There have been some problems with Find A Gravers and the cemetery office in the past (one Find A Graver had transcribed the entire cemetery and posted it to Find A Grave, but he was told by the cemetery manager to delete all of the names that he had posted - I was also told to delete all of my entries for Linwood as well, but I have been reposting the names through the years after that).
I don't know how the office is now dealing with Find A Gravers, but in the spring I might go down to check.

Yours Truly,
LeRoy A.

You're welcome! The headstone is difficult to read as there isn't much contrast between the background and the words. And the stone itself was not even dirty, although I brushed it off anyway.

So maybe I'll try getting it wet, to see if it brings the lettering out more. I'll put that on my to-do list for next time!

Best regards,
B.J.

PS - At least it isn't one of the red granite markers. They can be the worst to read! Too many speckles and the lettering not contrasting enough.

You are very welcome, You are so correct there are so many without some type of markers. I try to personalize it more than just saying there in no marker
