|Bob Hufford||RE: Kirsten Flagstad|
Thank you for writing...Kirsten was unique...of course we never heard the ladies from Wagner's own day but I doubt they were better than Kirsten.
Helen Traubel, Birgit, Rysanek...all very good, but... Hildegard Behrens was certainly good but she still comes short.
Check out Anita Valkki. I wrote her Find a Grave a couple of years back. Most of her career was in Finland and she had the misfortune to be a contemporary of Birgit.
Was there ever a singer as good as Kirsten? Well...Rosa Ponselle, but the repertoire was totally different. Their times at the Met overlapped but they had none of the same roles.
As for Wagnerians today, forget it...
|Linda Claxton||RE: re: marker for Virginia Sills|
You're so very welcome. I do a lot of photos at Ft Rosecrans and kept noticing that the temporary marker was "always" there. When it wasn't there I thought they had placed her stone. It appeared as if they moved the temporary marker to mow the area and then never replaced it. Once I discovered the temporary marker at the base of the tree closest to her grave I got concerned that it may have fallen through the cracks. It's nice to see her permanent marker in place.
If you see something you like, you can click on the offering and save it to your scrapbook. I find most of my flowers in the user upload section of my scrapbook. The images are always changing so check back every now and then.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
