| Bio and Links | I've been doing genealogy research for about 30 years. I started before you could turn on your computer and do the research from your home. While I enjoy the convenience of using the internet to do research, I still enjoy the more "hands on" approach. I've taken many trips over the years to courthouses, cemeteries, to visit elderly family members, etc. along the way. For me, the online research just doesn't bring the same satisfaction that I feel when I am able to go dig up the information in person. I've enjoyed meeting cousins that I never knew I had, and I've also been able to reconnect with family members that I've lost contact with over the years. This has become a great hobby, and I've enjoyed learning all the interesting stories, both good and bad, about my family history. I hope I have and am playing some small part in getting younger members of my family interested in what came before them.
I'm happy to share whatever information that I have. Feel free to use the grave photos that I've added without contacting me. I've uploaded them for your use. All I ask is that you list where you got the photo along with the cemetery, city, state so others can find the grave if they wish to visit it. I'm happy to take photos of graves in my area for other people and upload them to memorials here. I think of it as a kind of payment for those who have been kind enough to get photos for me. I try to take the kind of photos that I would like to have....well focused, as readable as possible, and a good angle.
As for the more PERSONAL PHOTOS, I'd like to be contacted before anyone adds them to another website or uses them in any other way. I love sharing, but I also like to know where and how my research and/or personal family photos will be used, and I like to know that credit is given to the proper individual(s) if my research or photos are used by others. I feel it's extremely important that future researchers be able to get to original sources of pictures and other documents the same way that I and others did. It's very frustrating to see a supposed photo of someone on the internet, but the person posting the photo doesn't have the original, can't tell you where the original is or any other information about it, and doesn't even know for sure that the photo is correctly identified.
I'm happy to transfer any memorials that don't belong to my family. Just let me know if I am managing a memorial which is of your family member, and I'll get it transferred to you ASAP if I'm not related. I like to see memorials in the hands of family or friends who can add to the memorial and make it the best it can be.

I also heard rumors that Michael's father, Christian Purkeypile (d. 1805 in Grainger County, TN), was buried somewhere nearby. Do you know anything about this?

Sorry it has been so long me getting back to you. Where the picture came from I'm not sure, as usual I was surfing the web putting different long dead ancestors names in and searching for any new info out there and this picture with the under inscription popped up under images for Gabriel D. Smith. The name and dates were already there. Since I have never seen any family pictures of the Smith's except for my great grandfather James Alfred Smith and my great great grandfather John William Smith who was son to Alfred Smith, I was excited. It never donned on me their were 3 Gabriel D. Smith's! Find a Grave has Gabriel, Sr and Gabriel, Jr with corresponding dates. I have been trying to replicate my steps but can not find it again. But I have removed it and will continue to search for the source. What other family pictures of the Smith's have you seen? Do you have any you will share? Yes, you may transfer them. I don't have family there either, but already maintain so many that a few more won't matter. I readily transfer memorials to family if they ask. I am not one to hoard, as some do. You do good work and I appreciate you doing this. Be sure and look for stones that are buried in the grass...it gets worse once the crabgrass starts. I carry a brush, water in a spray bottle, and yes, chalk (shhh...don't tell. it is frowned upon), and something to dig out around stones if I need to. You cannot post photos with chalk on the stones. I take a picture, then chalk the stone (white chalk only which cleans off readily), and then clean it back off. I figure if we don't read the stones now they may be lost forever. | | | Fredie Smith

Yes indeed, dates are quite off from what it reads on the stone. I am not related either. I am going to do a smidgeon of research to see what's up there. I didn't enter info myself.
