Selman Denniest Gilbert
Cheryl, I sent you a message today from Ancestry. I had no idea I would end up seeing your name again so soon, but I have been trying to find all the information that I could find on "Stanley." Just in case you have not received that message, I am going to copy it here, as well: I have just been going through alot of papers left in my Mother's things. Among them are interesting pictures and memorabilia about "Stanley." I have come to know that his real name is indeed Selman Denniest by going to the San Francisco National Cemetery records. She had a map of the cemetery, marking where "Stanley" was buried. Her records matched the gravesite and section #'s so I am sure this was the same person. The most recent thing we have come across is a family signature quilt made by my great grandmother. On one square she has embroidered "Stanley and 'Babe' 1932 California." My mother was always called "Babe." I have reason to think that they would never have included him if they were not planning to be married. Mother spoke of his name to me on one occasion, but told me almost nothing. Obviously, she later married my dad and had a wonderful life. But I have reason to believe that this is a part of her life and still important to me. I hope you will respond. I am going to be where I will not have connection for my ancestry account, only a simple cell phone for quite awhile. Please reply to me at billandlmhall@att.net After reading the other message left for you here at Find A Grave, I have one more interesting bit. The Christmas following Stanley's death, a Christmas card was sent to my mother from Virginia and H.E. Gilbert, Atlanta, GA. I don't know why but something inside me just wants to know more about his family. I don't need to connect, just know if anyone knows more about my mother and Stanley. From the memorial you left, it sounds like you have a fondness for him, someone you never got to know. Thank you, Lola-Margaret
