RE: McLane Family
Tom, So sorry we haven't had any communication in a long time. My husband's mother has been ill and passed away the end of August. Just a lot going on with family. Let's do plan on getting together after first of the year - let's get through the holidays. Nora Ellen

RE: McLane Family
Thank you so very much for the information. I appreciate your taking the time to give such a wonderful history. Some I have but a lot of new facts to consider.

I'm beginning to document each generation begin with my daughter and going backwards. I will certainly share with you any documentation I can find of the facts you have given me.

I grew up in Shelby County, lived 32 years in Sylacauga and the past 8 I have resided in the Chelsea area (Highland Lakes at Double Oak Mountain). My mother, Myra Shaw Wood had started our history and I'm trying to finish it as she wanted her grandchildren to know their heritage.

Thank you for helping me accomplish this.

McLane Family

I'm Nora Ellen Russell.

I'm a descendent of James Fleming McLane and Cynthia Ann Pond. Their son Charles Pond McLane was the father of my grandmother Kitty Kathleen McLane m. Cecil Hobart Shaw.

I'm also interested in the lineage of Cynthia Ann Pond McLane. Her parents were Ebenezer Pond and Caroline Cleveland. Caroline's father was Larkin Cleveland and his father was Captain Robert Cleveland (Battle of King Mountain). I would love to be able to have the proper documentation to satisfy the requirements of DAR.

I would appreciate any direction you could give.

Re: Ella Piety Nabors McLane
I am attempting to fill a request from Lanie for a photo of the grave marker for Ella McLane. On my first foray through the cemetery, I found her husband's marker (Charlie C. McLane) but nothing for Ella. Since then, I have been in contact with two of the cemetery trustees to see if she is perhaps in an unmarked grave. There are open spaces on either side of Charlie McLane's marker but so far we have not been able to find any record of Ella being in either of thoses spaces nor anywhere else in the cemetery.
Since Ella's husband died at a very young age, is it possible that she may have remarried. Might she have been cremated and her ashes scattered (Mississippi death certificates list disposition of the body and the cemetery - I'm not sure about Alabama).
Any further insight you can provide will be appreciated.

Welcome to Find a Grave
Hi Tom,

I talked to you on the phone a few years ago. Glad to see you found this site.

I hope all is well with you and your family,

William "Pete" Hough from South Carolina (my mother was a McLane).

RE: John Edward McLane
Hope the sermon went well. I linked up everyone whose info you sent to me. Still need to locate some of Williams children to link them up. I also chatted with Leia Key today when I was linking up the family. She introduced herself!

RE: John Edward McLane
Hi - I am SO excited to "meet you". I am descended as follows:
- me (Melanie Wynter)

- Kathy Smith Brewer (mom)

- Rose Simril Smith Huneycutt (grandmother)#61830927

- Robert McLane Simril (great grandfather) Find A Grave Memorial# 61966199

- Frances Rosebud McLane Simril Tilden Find A Grave Memorial# 62606904 (great great grandmother)

- William Fletcher McLane Find A Grave Memorial# 7094843 (3greats grandfather)

- then, our William McLane. I actually didn't know any further back then William Fletcher McLane until I found find a grave. I connected with user Peka (#46935229). He is closely descended from my line. His great grandfather was the brother of Frances Rosebud McLane (I believe from memory).

I have been working hard on linking all the descendants that I could find. I see that John Edward McLane's parents aren't linked. Who were his parents? I would like to have the parents added so that they will connect up.

Just something interesting, becuase my great grandfather was named Robert McLane Simril, many of his grandkids, great grandkids, and even great great grandkids still have McLane as a middle name!
