I am looking for descendants of the Burke/Dimitry families who settled in Louisiana, before and after Louisiana's entry into the US.

The family of William and Ellen Lee Burke settled in what was then part of St Martin Parish(now Iberia) in approximately the 1830s.

The Dimitry/Dragon families were settlers of the La territory in the 18th century.

Also looking for the Mills family of Charleston, and the family of General John Smith of Virginia.

RE: Burke/Dimitry families
So nice to hear from you. Yes, I'm Michael's oldest daughter. Did we meet at my grandmother's wake? I was so thrilled when Papa D. sent me all those portraits of the Ruth and Dimitry families. I didn't know they existed. Thank you so much for making copies.

I was contacted by the husband of a descendant of Margaret Celeste Ruth Dimitry Norvell (daughter of Enoch and Virginia Ruth). He is the one who has the original portrait of Alexander Dimitry. I do have a larger version that he sent me via email that I could send you, if you'd like. Otherwise I can try to contact him and see if he would be willing to make copies.

It is a shame that the Dimitry family tomb has not been kept in better shape. I have never seen it in person, but I would love to one day.
