RE: John H. Ginn, Co. D,, 16th Regt., Danielsville Guards

Thanks so much! What a great picture! You are so lucky to have it. You may want to change the cemetery to "Wilderness Battlefield National Park" Spotsylvania County, VA. There are 20+ others listed as interred on the Battlefield. This number includes 10 members of the 16th GVI I have created memorials for so far. Two of these are other members of Co D Danielsville Guard- Pvt J L Martin and Pvt G T "Ghis" Sanders. Ill email you the spreadsheet and the brief regimental history to the email address you provided.

Thanks so much for contacting me! :-)
Best regards

OH wow! Rodney Thank you so much for contacting me! I will make that correction for his middle name in my records. You'd be surprised how often that kind of mistake occurred. IN fact I have found men who were never reported to their families because the name was mispelled either by the surgeon at a hospital or in the prisoner of war process. I have tried to make the corrections for every one I am able to locate.

I have a virtual cemetery and so far have located 771 potential gravesites. I say potential, because there are yet a few that I cant verify for whatever reason.

My husband's gg grandfather was also in Co D Danielsville Guard and he was killed less than a week after your ancestor at the Bloody Angle during the Battle of Spotsylvania.

I imagine that the loss of your gg grandfather weighed heavily on Wm Fitts. You see, they would have lined up in alphabetical order and Fitts would have been next to Ginn. They may have been assigned to the same mess (group of 6 men who shared food, cooking and tents when they were available.) No doubt, after having served for more than two years together with last names F & G, I feel sure they established a relationship.

Have you been able to visit the Wilderness battlefield? If you go, there is a guide there JOhn Cumming who can show you exactly where the 16th Georgia was and walk you through what happened and when. If you get to the Wilderness, you should also be sure to make it to Fredericksburg.

I would love to have a scan of a picture of your gg grandfather to include in the eventual book. Youd be surprised at how many of the men I have pictures for. :-) I am happy for you to take a look at the burial info. Its an excel file. I can email it and a brief regimental history if youll provide your email address. My email address is

Thank you again for contacting me! I cant wait to hear more about your ancestor.
Best regards

RE: Tinsley Ginn

First off, thanks for letting me use the pictures. Can you tell me or find out how Tinsley Ginn died? I have been trying to find his death certificate and also an Obit and have not been able to find anything.
